High Wall in .219 Zipper Improved
« on: July 16, 2009, 07:38:17 PM »
Bought this rifle last year, with a heavy barrel, a Lischert Spot Shot 10X scope, and a Schuetzen butttplate.   It's my first High Wall, and gorgeous, but the caliber is driving me up a tree.    If you have any experience with this caliber, please share it with me.

I don`t own one, but do alot of wildcatting and have some info on the round. If your going to form your own cases you will need a form die set and start with .30-30 cases. Ackley says it will push a 50 gr. bullet at 3,700 fps. You can use form dies for the standard .219 Zipper an fire form the case to improved. If you have more question you can PM me and I`ll try to help you.

I have a standard 219 Zipper, I found 52 gr. HPBT work best with IMR4895
getting about 3500 fps. P. Dog killer.  Marv.

Have a 219 zipper contender...shoots well with 40 and 50ish grainers. 25-35 brass is easier to form IF you can find it. 4895 and 3031 seem to both work well. Have also tried 4064..overall 4895 seems to be most consistent.

Mr. Brown, gunsmith of eabco.com is a big fan of the .219 Don Wasp and the IMproved Zipper. His house cartridges in 6mm, 6.5mm and .30 --"benchrest magnums" are on the improved zipper case form. Sells cases. Might be awful easy, not cheap, to neck a few down for your gun. Good info on his site anyway. Enjoy.
