30-06 165GR NOSLER PARTITION
« on: September 26, 2003, 02:58:16 AM »
I just got invited on a last minute elk hunt.  I leave in 10days.  Nosler 165gr partition shoot real well in my Browning A-bolt.  Will this bullit suffice for a elk?  I really do not have time to make a 180gr load.  Who has experence with the 165grNP on elk.

The 165 will be adequate as long as you do your part.  I have talked to people that have taken bull elk with 150 grain core-lok from a 308.  Have fun. 8)

:D I have used the 165 gr partition specifcally for elk. I shot a couple elk with it an it worked fine. Have a good trip.

I haven't used 165 Nolsers on elk, but I have on big heavy hogs.  Like everyone said, if you put the bullet in the right place, and if you keep your shooting distances reasonable, then the bullet will do it's work.

WN,

The 165 Gr. Nosler Partition is my favorite .308 bullet.  Use it for everything except the biggest bears.  I have taken a few elk with my .30-06 and that was the bullet I used.  Have no fear it will work just fine.  Lawdog

I personally have never had the opportunity to hunt elk.  But I have read tons of posts on Greybeard about the 30-06 being all a person needs for everything short of the big bears.  And you cant go wrong with the Nosler Partition.  Good luck!

It will work like a charm, I just took and elk at 230yds with 30.06 using a 165gr Nosler partition.  As Zachary says, shot placement is the key to success!
