The ultimate SAA gunbelt!
« on: July 17, 2009, 03:03:20 PM »
When Lewis (44Man) posted this picture of his gun belt I knew I had to have one!  I've always liked the style as to me it is reminiscent of the canvas, U.S. Cavalry cartridge belts.  The fact that John Wayne wore one like it didn't tarnish the image either!   ;D   Unfortunately I never saw the perfect one, until now!

Lew put me in touch with the leather-smith, Chip, and we had a nice phone conversation.  We talked about my desires, planned use, etc., while he got all the information he needed to make the belt for me.  What really supprised me is that when I asked him where to send payment, and I thought the price was very reasonable, he told me not to worry about it until he had the belt done!   :o  In this day and age where people don't do anything without at least a non-refundable deposit up front, I was pleasantly supprised.   :)

I'm having it made so that I can use it as a 1, 2 or 3 gun belt.  I'd carry more but I ran out of waist!

I'll post a product review when I get the belt in about 4 - 6 weeks!   8)   ;)

Man I never thought of that!  I bet I could use one for at least nine or ten guns!  Cool!

Atlaw, usually as you get older, you get more waist, so don't give up on adding more guns to the belt!
I am very pleased with Chip and his leatherwork.  He is a true artist, you should see some of his work on leather covered lamps and mirrors and such.  Incredable!  Enjoy that belt Richard.  44 Man

Very nice rig, Altlaw. I guess Chip has been lucky. I got burned enough that I quit making anything without 50% up front years ago.

No Lew, thank you for posting the picture in the first place!  I can't wait to get the belt!   ;D

Concerning the holsters we were talking about.  After thinking and coj-e-gay-ting on it, I believe I have to many "projects" going on to try to make my own.   :-\  'sides, the local Tandy Leather store has closed it's doors so I no longer have a ready supply of leather and expertise.   :(

Sooooo, Chip may end up making me about 3 holsters!   ;D

P.S.  I'm on a diet!   8)  No more gut for me!  I've cut down to a six pack a night...  'cept on weekends... or special occasions... tonight I'm gonna celebrate Wednesday...  :D

Hey O&S!  I guess it's the same for anybody who is in business for themselves.  I know I did a whole lot of legal work for free in my time.   :(  I guess it's natural to want to trust people, and just as natural to get jaded when you are constantly disappointed.    :(

I didn't know you did leatherwork professionally!  Your post got me to thinking about a listing somewhere of members who have skills, products, etc. that other members could use.  I know if I wanted something I would get it from a member here before anyone else.

But then I considered this patronage matter from this site's point of view.  I'm sure the site depends on advertising (and donation) income to run; I know member's aren't charged anything.  I also believe that those paying advertisers wouldn't look to kindly upon others getting to advertise for free.

A conumdrum!  We want to help other members of this site in their ventures, but we need to keep and patronise those that advertise here or we won't have a site!   :-\

I recently bought a John Wayne style belt. It's pretty but not as pretty as this one.  I like it a lot.  I didn't order loops. Instead I ordered slip on inserts for shotgun shells and cartridges so I can modify the belt as needed.  I really like the look of your belt.

Guess my problem is my stomach hasn't stopped growing, yet. Do they make expandable ones or ones that grow with you as you get older? My once boyish figure seems to have grown into a beer belly.

I never thought about a list like you mentioned but I share your viewpoint about the paid advertisers. I was just pointing out that Chip was lucky that he could trust his customers to pay him. Back when I did leatherwork I got burned a few times and quit doing it without a deposit. I quit leatherwork except as a hobby long ago as I have another skill that paid a LOT more than cuttin' and hammerin' and sewing on leather. I still make a holster or shell belt once in a while for myself or as a gift for someone and sheaths for the knives I make but that's all.

That rig will go well with biker's leather on a Harley.  Might getcha' some 'admiring' looks too.
