New to me BC stock set

Just picked up my new BC stock set & reciever from my FFL. Wow Im very impressed with the wood. Nice grain. Got it home My 22 inch 45/70 barrel fits perfect. Now I just gotta get a couple sling studs. Ive got a leather sling that will be perfect. Im thinking a leather shell holder, but dont know if I wanna cover up the nice looking wood.  ??? Maybe a leather one just 2 inches wide or so ,just wide enough to hold 2
Im thinking this gun is gonna hunt this year

It sounds real nice.  Why not try a sling cartridge holder.  I've never used one, but the guns I've got stock cartridge holders on are synthetic, and nothing to show off.

Congrats on the new BC stock, I carry my spare cartridges in a wallet on my belt, I used a stock mounted neoprene carrier one year, decided I didn't like it.  ;)

Man think twice before putting a swivel set on that stock.
I have a leather lace on for my 38-55 B.C.

I agree, don't drill that fine wood for a sling swivel. Get a nice lace on leather sling. They make a nice one for ML's that is not to expensive....<><....:)

I just looked at those slip on slings. Have you guys seen one with shell holders on it Tht would work.

Thts the one I was looking at. Wouldnt be hard to have a couple shell holders sewn on Would look nice

That is a fine looking sling for a 45-70 and looks very similar to what I have on a ML except mine is rough side out finish. I think it would be GREAT for this application and much better than drilling holes in a great BC stock set...<><....:)

Done properly, I wouldn't hesitate drilling and installing studs in your new stock. Heck, I have some bolt action stocks that cost almost twice a regular handi full cost. Thats for the for the wood alone and they have studs in them...

Like Tim, I have tried the stock shell holders and didn't like the feel or weight on the stock. I really like the 5-10 shell wallets that fit on your belt. Most of the time I don't put them on my belt either. I have a shell in each of my front pockets and that cartridge wallet in my pack as back up storage.

I have that sling on my flinter no need for a shell holder you have to make that first shot count.not many deer stand around for that second shot with centerfire or flint fire
