John C. Fremont's lost U.S. M1835 Mt. Howitzer

I asked George G. a question about Fremont's gun the other day, and then I remembered this site. I don't recall if this site has been posted here before, but it contains some interesting information, not the least of which is a high resolution picture of the plans for the "12-pounder bronze mountain howitzer, model of 1835. Source: Alfred Mordecai, Artillery for the United States Land Service."

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

This Mountain Howitzer found by a man in his backyard in California, is mentioned in the Fremont site. How come the only thing I ever find in my backyard, is poop from a neighbor's dog?
