Apples/oranges.  A good tractor cost more than a Corvette, but which one would you rather take dancing ?  ;)

Besides which, I've never paid MSRP for ANY new firearm, since my SECOND gun, in 1961.   ;D

I just happened to run across it, and posted about it - that doesn't mean I'm championing it - it is what it is.

I made basically the same type rifle, from a Beretta 412 series Folding Shotgun, that I rebarreled to .44 Mag, back in the 70's.
But - that was then.

They're made in .22 Hornet, .222, .223, 5.6x50, .243, & 6.5x57. They're really going to have to come off the MSRP to compete with the T/C Encore or Remington SPR line.

I agree they seem a bit costly but so is the T/C Aristocrat these days. As to the Encore, that is a pistol with a jury-rigged buttstock and about as butt ugly a gun as I've ever seen and Remington no longer offers the SPR.

wganz:  I found a website a while back that looks exactly like EAA's site.  They had the Baikal's listed.  Can't remember what the company was called, but I think if you type in USSG and run a search it'll come up. 
Just going by memory, but I think those were the letters!

That price certainly is pretty up there for a break-action.  Maybe it'll be the bees-knees but between H&R shoring up the value end of things and T/C having the higher price/quality market, I just don't see the room.  Maybe for a falling block action I'd look more closely at that price point, but not at this one.

The Mossberg SSI-1 is about the same type gun and at a MSRP of 450 was a great buy, auto eject nice wood and it never went over. I too have wondered why the Encore has to have such a bad looking stock. To me the TCR 83 Or 87 is a much nicer looking and handeling gun and for some reason does not have a bad recoil.

Having another gun to make a selection from is a good thing and yes it's expencive. I like the Encore or the Contender. The time for me to purchase another falling block rifle has past, to expencive.

 Deacon- the reason the Encores and Contenders look the way they do is because they are a pistol converted to a rifle.
