Looks like Toby might be shooting a T/C this fall!
« on: July 18, 2009, 07:21:34 PM »
The Knight sponsorship is gone, and T/C has replaced it.

T/C always has the money for advertising, advertising is the name of the game these day's. As long as you have a rifle to back it up?

Any bets on which rifle he will be promoting?

I am sure he will be promoting TCARMS as he has done Knight.
I am glad he has got another place to be. I read a lot of his articles and have picked up quite a bunch of info from them that probably would have taken a lot of time to discover for myself. I was going to buy a Nikon Omega but instead bought the Leatherwood he pushes for half the price and it is just as he says. Works perfect and I like it better than my brother in laws Nikon Omega. He does too!
I read a lot on these forums and have learned a lot from people such as Toby and others like Cuyuga and also from you Busta. I enjoy your reports and statements! You converted me to BH209 all by yourself. Thanks, love the stuff.

One thing I don't enjoy on these forums is fellow hunters bashing someone because of their opinions on something. We all have our own opinion and should be able to express them without getting shot at.

Have a great day and keep writing your reports!!
Have a good day and be safe out there.

rogo,

I posted this on another forum, but will use it here as well.

I have met Toby before, even shot a couple of his Savage rifles a few times. A black stocked model and the famous brown laminate SS example. He was very down to earth, and knowledgable. He is just a guy trying to make a living at a sport that he absolutely loves. He has invested the majority of his life to this sport.

Now do I agree with everything he has ever said? No!

I look at it like the Auto Industry. There are thousands of Auto Workers laid off right now, because of a major downturn in the industry and economy as a whole. I will use what was once known as the Big Three for an example. Say you were a design engineer for GM, and you were laid off due to the cutbacks required under bankruptcy reorganization. Those GM jobs are history. What are your options? You can either try to find work in the same field elsewhere, or look for another line of work. What if you happen to get an offer from Chrysler or Ford where you can continue to do what you went to school for, and what you love to do, DESIGN CARS? Are you going to say NO, I am a loyal GM guy, I couldn't work for you guys? Or, are you going to see how you may fit in, and be able to continue doing what you love to do, even if it is for another company? We all have to eat, and have a place to live.

I wish Toby well! I KNOW I will learn more about T/C's from him than I ever will from Jim S., Michael W., or anyone else on their payroll.

Maybe he will be able to get them to offer a model without that damned QLA? If they build it, they will come!

I would also like to add. NOBODY has done more to promote hunting opportunities with a muzzleoader nationwide like he has! NOBODY!

I really hate it that Knight went under.  I really love their guns.  I hope Toby does well whereever he goes.

Yes and No. His big deal with traditional stuff is Round balls. Hes anti-round ball.

He's also anti- 45 cal and has proclaimed them dead.  Thought I was the last man standing until I found GBO!   Ooooops, my bad.  Just looked it up and that was Randy Wakeman!

Your the only one I ever heard of with one. Does it shoot conicals WELL? Was yours one of the first Encore barrels, or a special order?

I believe that it was an early one, not a special order. Its stamped T/C not Fox Ridge.
Never tried conicals, just XTP 300 grainers AND patched round balls. They shoot good but have only shot at 30 yards with it.

BTW this is a 209X50 15" factory pistol barrel. ;D

My other 209X 50 barrel is a rifle and is old/early as well  but has the QLA on it.

I am sure he did, Knight was never the same since EBSCO/PRADCO Outdoor Brands took over. It was all down hill from there.

Both Toby and Shockey are absolutely clueless when it comes to knowledge about roundball shooting and hunting. They promote what they use of course.
Go to a traditional muzzleloading board and see what game these guys take with a roundball.
Roundballs are like any thing else they have limitations and you must know them to be successful. With roundballs larger is almost allwyas better.  Hardened roundballs in .62 cal can and have killed everything on the planet.
African hunters used to use large caliber  round balls for elephant.

dulos,

I think that would be quite a stretch to say Toby is "absolutely clueless when it comes to knowledge about roundball shooting and hunting." What do you think Toby hunted with from the early to mid 1960's to the mid 1980's? He worked for Dixie for a few years there as well. I think Toby knows full well the limitations of a roundball. We all know they can kill effectively within those limitations, and then you have the scientific limitations of FPE to consider as well. Sure, we all know people that have taken game beyond those limitations, but that don't mean it would work in every case. I agree on the .62 cal, but the majority of the roundball rifles in these parts are .45 cals and .50 cals, with a few 54's thrown in there. You may have a point about Shockey?

I don't know where Toby is coming from on his criticism of round balls, it makes me think he has gone a little nutty, and the whole Savage explosion, which I think he is lying about, makes me think the same thing.

I have an inline and it is a deer-slaying machine. But the only reason I am still not hunting with my old style muzzleloaders is I have to use a scope now.
I killed 7 deer and 6 wild hogs with the .50 patched round ball. In all cases pass-through lung shots.
In all cases the round ball killed game better than the 30-06, and I have killed over 60 deer with that rifle.

Sure the round ball has limitations, every rifle has limitations. But who is going to try a 200 yard shot with a round ball anyway, even when I had 20-20 vision I didn't take 200 yard shots with iron sights.

If he is lying about the Savage he would be in deep trouble soon, which I doubt.

He explains his roundball stance on his site quite well & never said they would not work up close. It is what it is.

Toby is something else. He was on 24hourcampfire and started putting down people. I personally no longer will support him, thats for sure.

Toby's cool!  It sucks for him that he had to switch to T/C products but you gotta make a living.
