« on: July 19, 2009, 06:46:52 PM »
When shooting my 8"Colt Anaconda  :'(I can keep all my shots in the black at 50 yds shooting 180 gr Hornady XTP which are .430 in diameter. Well they're on back order every where ??? . I found some Remington 180 gr JHP .429 diameter. what difference with that make? :o

You can use either .429 or .430 bullets; no problem.  For optimal accuracy, the load will need adjustment.

Which will shoot better?  Who knows?

Many years ago when I was looking for THE load to shoot from my then new Redhawk, I tried just about everything I could find from 180's up through 300gr bullets from all manufacturers. Through the years since, I have gone to shooting the Remington's almost exclusively in just about all of my revolvers.

I have found them to be just as accurate and sometimes even more so than all of the top name brands. They are cheaper and might not all weigh exactly to the grain with one another but this hasn't seemed to both them one bit from my guns. Load them up and shoot them.

My standard load for the 44 mag. uses the 240gr SJHP over 23grs of 296. From my Redhawk it gets about 1250fps on average depending on the lot of powder. From a solid rest 1" groups at 50yds are not always the norm, but there are enough of them to rule out the bullet being the issue. The 180's also shoot very well for me, and were up until about 8 years ago my standard load. Once we got into hunting the hogs though I went with the heavier load.

I suggest you pick up a hundred to try, I doubt you will have any issues. Simply drop your normal lad back a bit and work back up with them and I bet you will see they shoot very well.

Good luck.
