today i picked up the anterless deer application  brochure.
no baiting in the lower pennsual for the 2009 michigan guns season

but they have increased the amount of does you can take, even getting 2 liscenses at once..

they are trying to thin the herd i think, no bait which gets some deer thru the winter and allowing us to take many more does then usual

never could figure that out. Most hunters downstate hunt farm fields which are nothing  but big bait piles but they allow that and dont allow you to put down a few apples.

the baiting ban is a farce.
the winters in the UP are longer and harder then in the lower, yet baiting is allowed there
there has not been any cwd deer found in the wild in the Up or lower.
there was 1 deer brought into michigan with cwd ( why they are not checked is beyond me )
i was told by a dnr official that they may allow baiting in the lower, if hunters buy permits to bait
biological fact, deer are grazing animals, they congrate together when feeding in the wild, naturally
another fact, baiting help some deer to make it thru the winters alive, and i doubt that it hurts the others by spreading diease
there is a dmv doc that adamitly denies the cwd issue, and this dr. has been refused to attend dnr meetings and has made attempts to speak out independently .
the dnr imposed on people to turn in thier neibghors for baiting, to tresspass if need be to find out if landowner were infact bait..
how can the dnr encourage law breaking to support their self imposed rules ?
the only waste diease we have, is the dnr

well said pal. I think its part the drn and part the dnr crumbling to pressure from the foresters and insurance companys that want our deer heard to starve and pressure from the anit hunters who dont want us shooting deer and pressure from the people who are to cheap to buy a little bait and get mad when there nieghbor does and the deer go to him. the biggest pusher for the ban on baiting up here is a guy i know in the Rock area that has fields planted for deer feed and has a large camp with all his buddys there that want to shoot deer. He got angry when other hunters were putting bait piles on the edge of his property and Some of his pet deer were being shot by his neigbors instead of him. Tell you another good one. In a little town called Chattam there was a guy who grew cabbage to sell for hunters for bait. He complained to the dnr that the deer were eating his cabbage before he could sell it for bait so the deer gave him a pile of crop damage permits and he would then sell them to people that wanted to shoot deer!!! There is just to much hypocracy and politics involved here. I hunt in a place in the UP where theres alot of hunting pressure. Opening week of season theres so many hunters that youd be falling all over each other if everyone was still hunting and im sure someone would eventually be shot. Its a differnt game then hunting someones private farm field down state.
