I listened to Kay Bailey Hutchinson today on Houston Radio, and as accurately as I can paraphrase, she said the following.
1. It is highly unlikely that we'll be able to stop a government takeover of the entire healthcare system, in its worst, most severe form (her thoughts as best I can repeat, not mine)
2. The way that she predicts that it'll play out is the few remaining Senate hold outs will be bought with pork incentives. As concession, the Senate bill will then be converted to a more reasonable approach of Healthcare reform and passed by the full Senate, BUT......................
3. The House version will be passed virtually unaltered, in its most severe form
4. When both Houses pass their respective versions, she predicts with utter certainty that the bills will go conference committee, where the legislation will be converted BACK to the House version, voted on with virtually no debate, then signed by the President. Basically, it's a foregone conclusion.
5. Her concluding remarks were, paraphrasing, that . She said that we are entering a new version of America, and its pretty scary. She eluded to a possible total economic meltdown if the entire democrat agenda becomes law.
The radio announcer/journalist reiterated everyones concern, and said that our only hope was to literally melt the congressional phonelines, email, paper mail, and certainly take to the streets expressing our opposition. Interestingly, KBH agreed that this is our only hope.
