You guys probably watched this a year ago... or made the video series. I just came across this video tonight and thought to post it here in case any other newcombers haven't seen it. Very interesting.

Just amazing how we figured out how to kill people so well.

I am also a big pistol Fan.
Looked up the history of the 45 cal pistol.
They made the decison on the 45 by shooting cattle.

Wonder how they determined the Cal of the grape shot?
Looks like there were many diff cal.

Grape is based on bore diameter. What size do you need so that 3 balls arranged in a triangle will fill the bore?  I believe that grape is always in stands of 9 balls, three layers of three.  I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
And, yes, our ancestors were quite inventive.  The types of shot and shell, the fuses for detonating them, teh method of engaging rifling were all amazing.   

Added:  Did you notice in the close up of the CS canister round that it looked liek they were using belted musket ball?  Was it the Maynard that used those?
