270 Winchester to 338-06 A-Square:

I have a Ruger M77 MKII in 270 Winchester with open sights, walnut stock and Ruger rings, Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 scope all gloss finish.  I was thinking on having this re-bored/re-chambered in 338-06 A-Square.  I think this would be the cheaper route and it has controlled round feeding, just wish it had a 24” barrel.

30-06 Springfield to 338-06 JDJ:

I also have Weatherby Mark V in 30-06 Springfield synthetic with no open sights and Leupold rings and Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40 scope all matte finish.  I was thinking on having SSKindustries.com rebarrel this to 338-06 JDJ.  I really like this action it has a 54 degree bolt lift.

Also, could someone measure their outside muzzle diameter on a Remington model 700 in 30-06 Springfield barrel for me?

Thank you,

For the two caliber conversions, just talk to a good gunsmith and let him do his thing. Might have to go with SSK for the JDJ conversion.

Muzzle diameter on a 700 sporter weight barrel is usually about .640"

I scrapped the whole idea of re-bored/re-chambered/re-barrel and just bought a used Weatherby Ultra Lightweight in 338-06 A-Square for a great price.

I called Weatherby this morning to confirm they don’t make these in 338-06 A-Square anymore.  The one I bought comes with a matte blued action, 24” stainless fluted barrel, Bell & Carlson tan with black web stock, which uses a CNC machined aluminum bedding block.

Kind of curious what a great price is if you don't mind.  I have been looking for one in 25-06 and think all the used ones seem a bit steep.

I just found out the sale includes the following:

RCBS 338-06 dies set

Weatherby brand 18 loaded & 2 once fired of 210 grain Nosler Partitions.

Weatherby brand once fired  brass 20 hand loads of 180 grain Nosler Accubonds.

Weatherby brand 20 once fired brass.

The sale just got sweeter.
