Accuracy and sighting in.
« on: September 27, 2003, 06:52:11 AM »
I have had an american Knight for the past several hunting seasons and have never been impressed with the accuracy of the weapon. It is very dependable though. I am using two Pyrodex 50 Gr. pellets and Hornady Sabots. Is there a better combination out there or a magic bullet that will increase the accuracy of this low-end, but decent smoke-pole? I don't need to drive tacks at 100 yards but I do want decent groups. I currently have Tru-Brite fiber-optic sights on it but am about to buy blocks and rings for my 4-12 scope and mate that to it. All other suggestions are appreciated. 8)

Well, Thar aint nothing magik about making a smoke pole shoot good groups and forget about that magik bullit. There was only one of them ever made and it was used in the early sixtys in I think it was Dallas.

You will need to try some different brand and weight of sabots along with getting some loose pyro to vary your charge with. It doesnt take 100 grains of powder to kill a deer. Drop your charge by 5 grains and see what it does. if you groups get a little better then drop it another 5 and see what it does. I dont use sabots or that type of rifle so maybe someone else can recommend something that shoots well for them form the same type of gun.
Like I said though. Nothing magik.. just time and patience and of course
a lot of shooting

Get rid of the pellets (they're fine for feeding your hamster ), but you sure don't need that much powder to get best accuracy!  Tell you what, try going to Cecil over on "PrecisionBullet.com" and asking him what works for your particular Knight 50.

Two of the most flexible bullets I've used in Knights are the 240 gr. .40 cal and the 300 grain (.44 cal) Dead Centers.
