The fact of the matter, whether it's a stray cat, a feral cat, a stray dog, or a feral dog, or either that the owner can't, or WON'T, keep up, their a pain in the posterior and are dealt with accordingly.
If my Jack Russell were allowed to run loose he would be a neighborhood nuisance and menace until someone shot him. He likes nothing or anyone but, my wife and I, and my mother in a pinch.
He is here in a half acre chain link fenced area to make sure everything and everyone goes by the rules on my place. i.e. If you ain't invited you ain't welcome. Unless of course your a pit bull, a cat, or a Lab retriever. Then you will never be invited, or welcome. ;D

You better watch them little fella's Dee.  We had one when we were boys that took up with a skunk...................

I'll bet he can if that's him in the picture, but have you ever noticed a Lab can eat 1 pound of dog food, and poop 3 pounds at one squatting?
We have one in our neighborhood that not only can accomplish that little feat, but he goes around when loose watering every one's car tires, and patio furniture except mine. My friends across the street would like to borrow Huff, but he doesn't like them either.
He hates that Lab, and my wife loves him even more for it. She gives him a biscuit every time she thinks about it.

The buzzards are feeding in the pasture behind my house now. Hummm, how strange. I think I will go out back and fill up my bird feeders.

:D ;D ;) Love this thread. I wish I could send it to my aunt and her worthless son. They must have 40 cats. >:( :P :-[ :'(  If I could get it to them they would both drop dead from heart attacks  :o 8) ::) That IS a thought  :D ;D But when I visit other relatives, their cats DO make fine target pratice. ;D :D  My Great Grandfather hated all cats. My mother told me when he was older he would visit his various children for a week or so at a time. When he came, all the cats were locked in the barn. If not when he left, they would all be dead. ;)

My son, and EX-daughter-in law had a calico cat that would lay on the kitchen cabinet while she cooked. It also slept on the dining room table. I nor my wife ate there. When we were asked to baby sit while she went to a doctor in another town the cat ran away from home. She asked if I had hauled it off, and I truthfully said no.
I did however make it's continued presence unpleasant to say the very least, and it apparently decided to look for greener pastures.  :-\

i like my cats as they kill rodents in the barn. not pets and never in the house. same with the dog. she only gets as far as one small part of the basement. if the dog or cats wander too far and get shot it's my fault and i live with that. and any that wander in here get looked after in a similar fashion. these pets actually just work with us to be part of our home.

There was an episode of "Life after people" on the history channel this evening. "They" seem to think that cats will take over the cities sky scrapers after we are all gone! When they do come down to the street the jack russel terriers will chase em back up ya recon?

As a lab owner i got to ask how well do jack r's retrieve geese in ice cold swift current water ? Sometimes putting up with a little poop has its benifits .
BTW i don't have to restrain my lab just give her a command to heel and she won't attack . If on the other hand i command fetch she will bring back a cat , goose , duck a Jack r. If I'm not home best not to mess with her or mine . My old male would break his tie out cable or climb his fence if anyone or thing messed with my kids . But she likes to fight and hunt . She did come from hunting stock not show stock . She hates copper heads as one bit her at 4 mos old now she does the bitting on them .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Dogs are needy- cats are independent. I can leave my cat by itself for a week- as long as it has food and water; it's ok. Try that with dog and you'll have poop and pee all over the house.

I agree with that..Any pet of yours..is yours! The neighbors may or may not like it (or it's activities) near as much as you do. That pretty wells goes, whether it is a dog, cat, chicken, tiger, python or possum.
We should keep them under our control.

My Grandfather had a little dog he called a "Fiest", looked somewhat like a Jack Russel.  Back in the hills of Tennessee in the 50s, they had never heard of a Jack Russell, or much of many other breeds, other than bull dogs and shepherds.  So they just called the dog what ever fit, and since the little dog was fiesty, grandpa just called him a fiest.

Anyway one day we were at the general store in Kemptown, and the little dog was lying on the porch waiting for grandpa.  Another man came up and yelled for the dog to get, he did not like it lying on the porch.  The little dog barked at the man so he siced his Bulldog on it.  The Bulldog came running up full speed, prepared to just overwhelm the little dog.  Little dog ducked to the side, ran under the Bulldog, grabbed a mouth full of the bag hanging down between the bulldogs hind legs, and set back.  Bulldog yelped and started spinning around trying to get ahold of the little dog.  Little dog ain't turning loose for nothing.  Yelps started sounding a lot like screams as the big dog spun around trying to shake little dog loose.  Little dog just kept shaking and pulling, never giving up his grip on the soft spot.  Bulldog rolled on his back jerking little dog off his feet, only making matters worse.  This caused the item in little dogs mouth to be severed.  Little dog ran back to the porch with it and displayed it to my Grandpa, then proceeded to eat it.  Bulldog ran off yelping, and everyone was laughing so hard at the dog and it's owner.  Somefolks thought there might be a shooting for a while over that, so they kept the man and my Grandpa seperate.  Grandpa after being advised to leave called me and picking up the little fiest we got into the wagon and headed back home.

Looking back on it I think the little Fiest dog was a Jack Russell terrier.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
