I hate cats
« on: July 26, 2009, 06:57:00 AM »
I hate stray house cats. SOS! (shoot on sight!)

There was a stray on the road while I was taking our dog out for a walk. The stinking thing arched its back in challenge. My dog wanted to go over and play with it. It would have clawed his eyes out if I hadn't pulled him back on the leash.

Stinkin' cats.

Is there a cat-specific neutron-type bomb that can be dropped on an area to kill all house cats while not harming other creatures? We need something like that.

  Questor;
you've got the wrong dog.. ;) :D I used to raise little Jack Russell terriers ( about 13.5" tall & long body and 13.5 lbs.) theres no way any cat is could get at their eyes without "paying the supreme price". :D ;D
..But who knows..perhaps that cat had just had her butt whipped by a dog just before you came along..?
I know how you feel, but in reality though, we can't go around killing other people's pets. Lotsa trouble there.. ;)

I have a house cat that is the coolest pet. He retrieves and is very loving. The cat doesn' leave the house. It's the people that allow their cats to roam that are at fault. I have a peeve with neighbors that let their dogs poop and pee in my yard killing my flowers. Should all dogs be killed. YOU ARE A CATIST.

ironglow:  I differ with you, I shoot some every year.  I put out the word, any cats found on my property will be shot on site.  So have several of my neighbors.

We also set traps during the winter in out yards.  I usually catch one or two coyotes at my well head during the winter.  I will also catch two or three dogs, and two or three cats, in the same trap.  Since it is in my front yard, I know when something gets caught.

The dogs I go out and you have never seen a more grateful dog.  They understand the only way they are getting out is if I let them out of that trap.  Even the meanest Pit Bull, or Husky, becomes very friendly.  Once released a dog will never come back, and as people walk their dogs in the evening, when those dogs see me they always want to come over and say Hi.

But a house cat is totally different.  If you get within their reach they will eat you alive.  When I first started trapping I would release cats.  Next night I would catch the same cat again, usually in the same trap.  Now the .17HMR does the job, and coyotes or foxes clean up the evidence.

When people started letting cats run loose in the neighbor hood, I caught them killing the baby birds (Robins) in the small birch trees in the back yard, and in the nest under my barn roof.  That's when I started shooting cats, as did my buddy two doors down the street, and also the guy two doors up the street.  From comments made by other men at neighborhood meetings I am sure we are not the only ones either.  By fall there was no cats left running loose in the subdivision.  Lots of upset women, and young girls, out scouring the neighbor hood.  When I was asked if I had seen a particular cat, I was in most cases able to tell them no I had not, but I reminded them that the borough had a leash law and cats were not allowed to be let run loose, neither were dogs.

On one occasion I had to tell a woman that yes I had seen her cat, it would have been much easier to have lied, but I won't do that.  I told her that I had shot it as it killed and eat the baby robins out of a nest in my back yard.  She got real upset, threatened to sue, and went home and sent her husband over to talk to me.  Told him the same thing, and to keep his cats at home, if another one comes over here I'll shoot it too.  Reminded him of the leash law and that I too could sue him for letting a predator of wildlife and domestic animals run loose in the neighborhood.  How a house cat had gotten into my duck pond enclosure and killed some ducks.  Never heard another word from it, and they don't speak to me to this day.

Every spring there is a fresh batch of cats running around, they don't last long.  Was at a party last month, when we heard a shot.  One of the guys yelled out in response of the shot, (That's just Hunter shooting another cat) everyone looked at me.  Then the responder yelled, "Oops Hunters is here, could not have been him.  Someone else is shooting cats".  I yelled "Yea, another one bites the dust".

I openly hate cats, let everyone around me know it, and if they don't like it, that is their problem, not mine.  Most of the men in the neighborhood agree with me as well.  Every quarter we have a meeting of the people in the three subdivisions that make up our Road Service Area.  There are always new families attending, and we welcome them into the neighborhood.  Also while we have them there Dave the guy running the meetings, tells them pertunate information about the area.  One thing he always brings up is pets.  Pets are more than welcome, just don't let them run loose, especially cats.

I have never been fond of cats but two years ago just before Christmas a black cat showed up on my front porch, skinny as a rail and its left eye almost torn out.  I tried to find its owner but could find no one to claim him, I called animal control and they said they couldn't take it until after the first of the year.  My wife and I patched up the eye, fed him and put a box on the floor of the garage for it to sleep in that night.  I continued to try to get rid of it, but no one would claim or take him.  He adopted us.

He is still here today, has developed quite a personality, thinks he is a dog, plays with them like he is one of the boys, comes when I whistle and is the best mouser I have ever seen.  He accompanied us on a recent trip, snuggled up with the dogs on the back seat of the truck and rode with no problem, he walks on a leash when we stop and didn’t seem to be bothered at all in the temporary surroundings. .He is now very much part of the family.  He is not the skinny boy that came for Christmas; he now weighs about 12-14 pounds and can hold his own even with my German Shepard.

I thought I’d never have one, but I must say I like this cat! 8)

Sourdough, I agree with you. Cats are fine pets, if kept in the house or on the owners property. Otherwise, they are predators and dealt with accordingly. It amazes me the people who feel it is their cats right to travel where it wants, kill what it wants, when it wants, with no problem. I told my neighbor that when he lets his cat out all night it has gone from a pet to a pest.  I deal with pests one way. He never questioned it when his cat failed to come home.  The sad thing is some idots have permited the state to mandate that cats can not be exterminated when running free.  :o What a crock. Fortunatley most states are enlighted when it comes to feral cats. And a cat that is not under control is a feral cat. In some places small game is a thing of the past, but if you travel at nite, there are cats out everywhere. I don't like cats, cant say I hate em. I have seen a couple that were ok, but the minute they leave the confines of their home or owners property....Pow ;D :D ;)

I will admit there are places for cats.  They are not my idea of a good pet, but some people think otherwise.  They are entitled to that idea.

I do usually keep a cat or two around the feed room in the barn when I live where I have horses.  They are not pets, they are there for pest control.  If they don't fulfill that role they are gone.  Their world is that barn, and there is usually enough mice to keep them busy and content to stay there.  If I catch them leaving the barn I get rid of them.

My two fondest cat memories are:
1) A north Georgia hunt for feral cats. (They are  a real menace to fully domestic animals like chickens)
2) A news story about a Tampa Chinese restaurant that was busted after neighbors noticed that neighborhood cats were disappearing, ultimately down the throats of the restaurant customers.

2 years ago, we had a cat make it's home in our woodpile, and had babies. Unfortunatley, my youngest boy pleaded, older brother had a pet,(german sheperd) he wanted one. So we kept one of the kittens, gave the mother to my mother-in-law, and gave away the rest of the kittens. This is the first cat I've ever owned in my life.(I'm 54) Never had a desire to own one, and killed plenty of them over the years. I have to admit, he's not a bad pet. Probably because he thinks he's a dog.(we have a golden retriever also) He wags his tail when he comes up to you and wants something. And, is not afraid of the sheperd. In fact, the cat will start a fight with the sheperd, just to do something. A couple times, at 2 or 3 in the morning, I've been woke up, with those 2 chasing each other around the house. The retriever just looks at me with that look, hey, I'm not in on this, I was sleeping to.
And just in case some of you think that I'm a cat lover, if you punch up a you tube video called Commericial Row-Camp Perry, you'll see one of my cat targets I make. gypsyman

Cats were hated and feared n the Middle Ages. Something to do with being linked to demonic creatures.

In the Middle Ages, cats were often thought to be witches' familiars (e.g. graymalkin of the first witch in Macbeth's famous opening scene), and during festivities were sometimes burnt alive or thrown off tall buildings.

The human killing of cats in the middle ages has also been cited as one of the reasons for the spread of the plague, which was spread by the increased rodent population caused by the death of so many cats.

Cats were sacred in Egypt. Which of the 2 civilizations was more advanced ?

I don't want a cat on my place, and ESPECIALLY IN MY HOUSE! They get on cabinets, kitchen tables and are nasty.
I have a Jack Russel Terrier that likes them though. He eats every one of them he can find and catch. I trap them, and vaccinate them with a 12 gauge.
Sourdough, I don't trap Pit Bulls. I shoot them. FIRST OFFENSE! Which means if they get on my property, that's offense. I have no tolerance for them or their feline friends.
If folks like their cats and pits they had best keep'em home, or they won't be home.

Feral cats are nothing to leave running around your place! Neither are "house cats" They dont kill to eat they kill for fun. There have been several cats and dogs that have decided to pack up and move away from this part of the county. I practice S.S.S. Seems there is a new law in Texas making it a felony to shoot dogs, dont know about cats and I aint sure but you could always shoot animals that got after your live stock. We have chickens, a collared dog gets one chance, a pit bull gets none and is SSS'd imediately

highwayman, around here the professional horse people (this is the mecca for cutting horse folks) like Jack Russell's for their barn areas. They have no real interest in the live stock but, will out mouse a cat 50 to 1, and keep every other critter free of the area.
I bought mine because of "copperhead snakes". I was raised on this hill in North Central Texas, and when I moved back across the road from where I grew up, I remembered the snakes the first summer when they started showing up in my shop and sheds. I fought them for about 6 years and gave up on myself keeping them out. "Huff" the Jack Russel pup was brought here when he was 4 months old and I haven't seen a snake of ANY KIND in "his" fenced in half acre we call home in 7 years. Some of the neighbors haven't seen their cats in about that long either.
This little 20 pound guy will get on ANYTHING walkin if it gets in HIS yard. He will not even allow a stranger to stand close to me or my wife. He is a 200# dog trapped in a 20# body. He doesn't want to be handled by ANYONE other than me or my wife, but will let my mother handle him if we aren't around. Everyone else, and every THING else, he faithfully hates.

I have always had a saying, "If a dog or cat are more than 100 yards from the nearest house, they are up to no good."

When I lived in Mi., the first animal I killed while bow hunting for deer, was a dog. It and it's companion, were running a young deer, and had almost caught it. After I shot the first one, the other one ran off.

The other way to look at it, is that cats are much better. When you shoot them, they jump higher.
I carry a single shot.
'cause it only takes one shot.

The main problem here is people let their cats run lose or they abandon them and they become feral/strays.

No cat will every be a dog, nor act like a dog, because it’s a cat.  I hear owners say this all the time; they are cats regardless on how they may act once and a while.

Every well fed cat kills for the sheer fun when they are allowed to roam freely outside.  They kill wild animals: birds, rabbits, squirrels, turkeys, ducks, geese, pheasants, grouse and the list goes on and on.

It take no time for people to start screaming over a dog running lose, but somehow these same people don’t make a peep when they see cats doing the same.  Probably cat owners!

I despise all cats, I hate dead ones they stink and I hate all live one because they aren’t dead.

I just have to say to everyone out there, please be careful.  Don’t become a felon because you dispatched a cat even if you’ve saved a wild bird or rabbit or whatever.  Cats are not worth the effort.  On closing I do applaud everyone that has educated cats in the proper matter.

Thank you,

We lived in DC for three years.  Our house was half a block from the Potomac river.  The large rocks placed there to prevent erosion was the home to hundreds of feral cats.  We were told to stay away from them since they had all kinds of diseases, including rabies.  Skyler was small, (3 yr old) when we moved there.

One evening around dark, while we were walking down the bike path along the river a cat came out and attacked Sky.  I punted it out into the river.  From that point on I carried a Pellet Pistol and an old golf club,on our walks.  The air pistol was quite, and effective.  The golf club helped them to fly far enough out into the river to not wash ashore close by.

I also set live traps in the sand box in the play ground directly behind our house.  I would set the trap after dark and remove it before I went to work.  Some nights I would have one in the trap before I could walk back into the house.  Animal control took the first four or five, then told me I had to get ride of them myself, they would not take anymore.  I gave them a shot that killed them then dumped them into the river.  Guess the crabs and fish ate them.

After a few months and over a hundred cats later, I could not tell I had made a dent in the feral cat population in the area I quite trapping them.

I like cats, never did until I got married and the wife came with one. I've had a few now, when they die I get another one from the SPCA. They are house cats and we keep it indoors. It only goes outside when we are outside, and then it stays on the patio. They are the best hunters bar none, you could learn from them. Yup, feral cats are a nascence and should be euthanized, as they devastate the indigenous small animal populations. If people have cats they should keep them inside and not let them loose, unless they are working cats on farms. (for rodents)

I’ve always had German Sheppards, house and guard dogs while living overseas. When cats came into the yard story over.
