Well, I live a little farther north, in the northern Puget Sound area.  I can honestly say I don't remember it being this hot here, and if it was, it might've been one time that I don't remember in the past 22 years.  Right now, it's 11:40PM and it's still 80 outside.  I don't know how hot it was at it's peak this afternoon.  It's been plenty hot indoors; my little digital thermometer says it's 82.2 in here right now.  Downstairs, it's cooler in the part of the house that has a slab floor.  I spent part of the afternoon diddling around downstairs, cleaning guns and stuff just to be in there.

My daughter came over with her toddler to spend the night here.  She said her house was 94 degrees inside.  She lives a bit inland from the Sound where the temperatures are typically higher in summer than where I am.  Most people I know who live here don't have air conditioning; we just don't need it often.  Some people might have a heat pump that they can reverse and get cool air out of, but I think those things get marginal in the extremes.  I'm sure there is a run on window-mount air conditioners at Walmart right now.

Tomorrow evening, it's supposed to be the hottest ever.  At least that's what they said on the news earlier.  Why can't they be wrong about this hot weather once in a while, like they so often are in the winter time when it doesn't get as warm as they say it will.

Oh well, we're never happy.  As the winter progresses, I start to thinking that I'll never see the sun again.  Now, I'm thinking that I'll never see the rain again.  This evening, I spent several hours outside watering the other half of my property selectively.  One little pet redwood that I watch over was looking droopy on the new growth, so I know it was thirsty.  When it gets this hot after already being so dry for so long, it really stresses out the trees and other plants.  They become weak and can't stave off disease and insect invasion, and the next thing you know, you've got a dead tree.  You can't bring coniferous plants back to life once they start to die.  At that point they are firewood.  I even watered all the Oregon Grape out there, the ferns, trees, everything got at least a little drink.  Everything but the ivy, that is.
I've got well over 250 trees, so it takes a while.

Not to make you jealous Quick, but the Louisville paper this morning has a front page article declaring that this July will be the coldest on record and the first on record when no days reaching 90 degrees.

Much of the midwest is WAY WAY cooler than normal.  I also read that Chicago is much cooler than normal with an average high of 68 degrees.  Talk about a year with no summer.  Texas, the southwest, and the northwest are hotter to much hotter than normal.  Talk about extremes.

Two years ago we were having a serious drought and near record heat here in Bowling Green, while just a 5 hour drive west in Missouri was having flooding.  Weather extremes are no suprise, but having them so geographically close is surprising to me.

BTW zoner, we have our share of kooks here, fortunately most of them reside in Louisville.

We have had a few days that have been over 100 here in Wichita, Ks.Really has not been that bad of a summer so far. We have had alot of rain this year as well. Last night we had a storm roll thru and I got 1.75" of rain in about 30 minutes. It has been a wierd year. We had a blizzard at the end of march that dumped about 14" of snow with 50 MPH winds. I can't wait to see what this winter brings.

106-108?  Heck, my warehouse starts hitting that around late May and stays there (and more) until around October... ;D

Can't say for sure just HOW hot it gets in the warehouse since the thermometers I have around here are pegged at 100.

OK don't laugh, 80 today and the mid 80s tomorrow.  For us that is just as bad as 110 for you guys.  It's a proven scientific fact that for us that live in the cold climate, our bodies acclimate to the cold weather and we can not tolerate hot weather as well as people that live in hot climates.

I run around in shirt sleeves at zero, no coat, just a vest.  I'm comfortable then to be out working all day like that.  But this 80 degree weather has got me down to the point that I can't do anything outside.  I'm sitting here now in my boxers, sweating like mad, and it's 76 degrees in the house.  We don't have Air Conditioning.  This is unseasonably warm for us.  And we are fighting smoke, I spend last Tuesday in the hospital due to breathing problems due to smoke from the forest fires we have going on now.  And the hot dry weather we are having only adds to the problem.

Yes I can relate to living in hot areas, I grew up in Tennessee.  And have spent years living and working outside in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.   I can remember when I thought 110 was a good day, after it being over 120 for a week.

I find...(usually) a good even mix here in Virginia, though I live well in the Blue Ridge Mountains and they can give us good cool temps. I love the South, and don't deny it  ;D But I can't take the Humidity and Heat too much lower than here... Asthma :-[ Hard to freakn breath... Oddly enough just a little over an hour from us, JCity-TN was in the top 3 worst citys for allergies in the country last year! Wish I were in Alaska my friend.

Sounds like typical south Texas weather to me Tim!

What ya'll crying about?

Just kidding, but it's been umpteen days down here over 100+ and that's a lot even down here, but what is worse is we are locked into a prolonged drought with all the lakes at record lows.

If we don't get something soon out of the tropics, which is what it's going to take for some much needed relief, it's going to be castostrophic down in my part of the country.

This ain't Texas!! I spent two days there on my way cross country from Georgia in 1970 when I busted a spring on the boat trailer, that was my first and last visit there, won't be another. Temp only made it to 107º yesterday, supposed to be 98º today and a gradual cool down to the mid 80s next week, what a relief!! 8)

Sounds like my feelsings on CA.  Been there once for thirty days (courtesy of Uncle Sam), didn't lose anything there, saw no reason to go back.  Come to think of it, that's my feeling for Houston too... ;D

Jimbo, I'm up in N TX.  Send a tanker up here and I'll share some of the rain we've been getting.  Some of it, not all of it though. ;)

We are at low to mid 90's here in Florida with the heat index about 102.  Nothing unusual for this time of year here.

We're about 80 miles east of Tim and 10 miles from the Columbia River.  It was 109 for a brief time two days ago, that night the outdoor temp got down to 78 which is unusually warm for this area.  This morning at 5:15 it hit the low of 57 which is close to normal.  It just hit 100 a few minutes ago and is still warming up.  Last few days have been running in the 103 to 107 range for most of the afternoons.

One of the warmer periods we have on record but not the hottest for the area.  Sure makes good wheat harvest weather.

You live in the Puget Sound area by chance ???

I know you are in WA. state but never known exactly where .

I lived in Mukeltio for a good while and you just discribed the normal summer day to my memory.

Nope, I'm down in Vancouver, today's high was 96º", Mukeltio is north of Seattle, looks like they're having the same weather we got which is not normal for the west side.  :-\

Raining again here in Bowling Green, mid 80's for highs.  Both June and July are some of the wettest on record here with their averages running close to twice the normal rainfall.  So much so that some folks are having problems with blight, fungus, rot and such with some of their plants.  No flooding though, just regular rain storms every few days.  Corn looks good, could use some sun though.  Very very humid as well.

Tim, glad it's cooling down for you you, I remember back years ago all we had was a window fan and a black and white tv., now look at us now all the good stuff we have, back then a single shot 22 rifle and a single barrel shotgun was high cotton, but most of the time I didn't have the money to buy the shells for the guns, so now I look at what I have and thank the Lord for what I have, so what is a few months of hot weather.

Yes the high temps are bad, but it is the smoke from forest fires that are getting us down.  The high temp and low humidity helps them grow and move.  The wind is out of the south, blowing the smoke from the Wood River/Tanana Flats fire right into the Fairbanks area.  It's so bad now they are telling people to stay indoors.  Some buildings (Library) have special filter systems to filter out the smoke.  Those of us with bad lungs are told to go there and spend the day.  I went to the library yesterday just to check out some books, the place was packed.
