Black Bear bullets
« on: July 28, 2009, 02:33:33 PM »
Which bullet should I use- 300 grain hornady SST, or 300 grain bonded Shockwave. Both shoot the same over 130 grains 777 pellets. Shot will be close- 30 yards or so. Most of the bears killed in the area (northern minn) have been 150-250 pounds, with a few getting big.

With that much powder and under 50 yard shots, I would use the bonded.

I was leaning that way, especially with the potential of a big bear coming along.

I would use the 300grn XTP at those ranges. It's A more consistent bullet.

It doesn't take a super bullet to take down a black bear.

What ever works for deer will work equally for black bear.

I think either of those would be ideal. Just put the bullet right where it needs to go.
