I've shot quite a few different mfgs bullets in my .357s.  The manufacturer doesn't seem to matter much, but heavier bullets shoot more accurately, including the Maxie.  Mine does well with 158 gr. and up, including the.38s.  For that, I use just cheap 158gr. LRNs or wadcutters.

The only reson I don't want to go the pistol round route is the receivers won't take the rifle barrel.  I want to add another barrel as she grows.  We regularly hunt over a large field that is over a mile across.  We could take long shots over 500 yards if we wanted but mainly I like to take shots in 150 yards or less. I wish I was a reloader, but I really couldn't see where it would save me that much money with the calibers I mainly shoot.  (30-30,7.62x39,7.62x54r,30-06)  The recoil is the main thing and that is why I am debating between the 243 or the 223 in a bull barrel for the extra weight.  If I use 60-70 grain loads in the 243 like what is in the 223, will the recoil be the same?

Check the links at the bottom of the article I wrote about calculating recoil.

The solution to that is get the rifle chambering first and have a 357mag accessory barrel added, turn around time for accessory barrels is about a month.  ;)

243 recoil will be roughly double to a bit more of that of the 223.

They make .270 Win reduced recoil loads. That is about the flattest shooting cartridge for which reduced recoil loads are made. Sometimes used barrels with compensators can be bought which reduce recoil further. Can't help with muzzle blast though.

I'll Second the 357 mag / max and 44 mag  ... I have the 243 youth for my nephew and i had to reload it down for him .. Hind sight being what it is i wish i had bought him the 44 mag..

Thinking at the time thou lead me to think in the future more then anything , that 243 will serve him well as he grows into a man .. And of course the fact that i can change calibers at a minimal expense was a major plus too .. They just dont make a 243 special lol , They do in the old 44 which makes plinking ( building thier confidence) a blast and doesnt rattle them near as much.
 Just my 2 cents,

Oh and FYI my local Gander mountain has three 357 mag synthetic SB2 recievered rifles in and two 44 mag SB2 rifles for $249.00 ATM ( at the moment)
