17/223-050
« on: July 30, 2009, 02:00:36 AM »
Found an interesting barrel the other day at a gun shop. The only markings on it is :
17/223.050

It is 15" long and threaded for an XP 100 Remington action.

Anyone have any info on this wildcat? I am guessing it is a 17-223 shortened .050 so as to fit in an 221 Fireball action.
Before Rem started making the XP in  longer cartridges we had to remove the bolt to eject loaded rounds out when the gun was rechambered to longer rounds such as a 6X45.

I would sugest a chamber cast. If it is a shortened .223 case and you don`t get dies with it you`ll pay through the nose for them. OR, you might shorten a set of .17-223 dies and make them work, but they are not real cheap eather. Personally, I would probily not be interested in that barrel without the dies unless your willing to rechamber it to a .17 Rem.
