Heres the situation... Coons are overrunning the area farms right now and shooting only gets the dumb ones. I have access to a couple live traps but don't know what to use for bait. Here's the kicker, we've got a few barn cats running around out there and i don't want to catch them. Any suggestions?

Go with sweet baits,my biggest seller is Fur King by Blackies Blend.Sweet lures are also less attractive to cats.
But if you get a cat in a live trap, just open the door.

For bait Sardines or Tuna fish. In live traps you will catch both targeted and non-targeted animals. Let the cats go and they will wise up. If you catch a cat more than twice he is a democrat and you should know how to handle them

Marshmallows! They can easily see them in the dark, and go to them like there's no tomorrow. I've caught several coon this month alone, all on marshmallows. I also caught several G. hogs on the same bait.

It's a full time job keep them at bay, when you have a garden!

One big mallow, pulled in half. Half before the trigger, the other half just behind it.

Most ADC guys,do use the marshmallows in conjunction with the sweet baits and lures.It is a great site attractant.
I really like shellfish bait for coon,but the stronger fish smells this time of year,will also net you lots of skunks and possums--in addition to cats.
When the weather is colder--I go with shellfish.

I help a farmer friend trap coon around his sweet corn. I've found out that changing sweet bait every couple of days helps with the problem coons. Seems when we change baits, the catch increases the next morning. Then the sweet corn attacks lessen. Try using those little candy bars as a change of pace. It works.

I baited three live traps yesterday with marshmallows, and had three adult coons today... And that's why i keep using them... It always amazes me at how those dam coons keep coming!!

came home late last night and there were 5 more coons in the calf lot! it's a plague!

I like honey buns for coon or a piece of bread with peanut butter and honey. With the honey bun I just poke holes in the wrapper and the little boogers eat it as well, so don't leave in the wrapper if you are just going to relocate them.

If the coon are coming into the corn use creamed corn with a little honey mixed in. I would also use some fish type baits. If you catch a cat rattle the cage a little before you turn it loose. It will think twice about entering another cage trap. If you have them I would set as many cages as you can. This time of year the young are still hanging around togather and you will clear them out faster, plus if you do catch any cats you will still have traps open for the coon.

An ear of sweet corn will work. I've used a mixture of powdered raspberry jello and raisins mixed together with success. Marshmallows should work too.

You could try Kishel's Coon Cream .... doesn't catch any cats.

When I want sweet--for bait I use Blackies Blend--Fur King. For lure--Blackies Blend-Sledge Hammer--these are also--not attractive to cats.

What Bogmaster said. I run a wildlife control business, and when setting cages for raccoons, some of my top baits are Blackie's Fur King ( paste ), Sledge Hammer ( liquid ) and Night Bandit ( liquid ). I don't want cats, and try to avoid other non-targets. That combo - on marshmallows suspended from a wire in the rear of the cage, has performed very well for me. You can catch coons on just about anything. Personally, I want to catch them quickly and reduce the number of trips to the site in a nuisance situation - works for me....
