I have heard that you can disconnect the magazine safety and drop the pull weight.  is that legal?  if so, how do I do it?

Removing a safety of any kind is foolish and usually not warranted. I've seen the grips safeties on 1911's autos pinned to deactivate them and even experimented with the idea. The improvement is minimal to none and there is an increase in the daner levels.. I'll include a parts diagram below but my advice is to leave the safety alone..

The magazine safety is number 48, it's removal doesn't look too difficult..but explaining the why in front of a jury may prove much more difficult.
