338 MARLIN EXPRESS OR 35 WHELEN
« on: July 31, 2009, 10:03:36 AM »
Will any of these be available this year as an accessory barrel?  I read thru the polls and i assume the 35 will later this year, any info on the 338?  Thinking about one or the other.  I assume existing 35 whelen barrels are hard to find?  Leaning towards the 338, heard ammo was hard to come up with for some.  Is Hornady the only one producing the 338 marlin express rounds?  Thanks

Not likely, the 35 Whelen might possibly be available as a rifle later this year, but they already have a production requirement for other chamberings for firearms orders to fill, the Whelen will be excess to that production level, the 338 MX is just a suggestion, no testing or production has even been scheduled yet. The new hammer forge barrel facility may help speed things up, but that remains to be seen.

Testing has finished and it has been approved, there will be some guns made later this year, but not a lot due to the large amount of orders already placed for other chamberings, those to be made this year will have 22" barrels. Those scheduled for production next year may have longer barrels, I've posted a separate poll for that, please reply to that poll.

So sounds like neither this year, 338 not even close to being a reality yet.  Thanks Tim
