Ranger44 I bought a new Dick's SG H&R heavy bbl camo stock 308 and reported back on it already! (wink) but if you are trying to give me an excuse to buy a new gun then that's a whole nuther story! Quick it's a scoped package at bass Pro for $499. I need another 308 like I need another hole in my head, but I do like 308s

If it's a cheapie scope like come on many other package guns, it ain't necessarily a bargain, your Dick's combo is a good example of that.  :-\

Tim

The first couple shots I didn't notice it because I did the trick where you lock the crosshairs down on the center dot shoot once then move the cross hairs to the bullet hole, but when I started to fine tune it that's when I noticed the adjustments were backwards!

yeah I have to agree with you there. As a rule of thumb I generally go into these deals with the expectation of replacing the scope, but it is still less than the MSRP without the scope. Anyway come monday morning I'm going to talk to the local gun shop owner up the road from me, and see what kind of price he can give me. He's pretty reasonable on his rifle prices.

Spoke with gun shop ownwer up the road today, and he hasn't herd anything one way or the other about the outfitter. He did say however that traditions has tried other things in the past such as shot guns but they didn't last. he said if you want a single shot stick NEF/H&R

reviving an old thread to let people know that traditions has stopped manufacturing this rifle.. and that bass pro shops took the last shipment from the factory recently.. they have them on clearance complete with rifle sights, base, rings, and scope.. for $249...

i picked one up in .243 as a "spare" gun.. couldnt resist at that price..

took it to the range this weekend to zero the scope.. its holding 1 1/4" groups @ 100 yards with rem core-lokt 100gr ammo..

really cant complain for the price i paid..

the store in sevierville, tn still had about 30 of them left in stock... .243, .308, .270 and .30-06..

im tempted to go back and get another one in .308... just because of the price... (original retail at bass pro was $650..)

I had a traditions hawkens balck powder about 15 years ago & it out shot my Thompson Center all day long, really liked that gun, I had no idea they were build'n a center fire rifle, hate to hear they've already discontinued it.

although I heard of less than great reviews on the quality of ther black powder gun in the least few years.
I've never been lost,,,just rite fearsome confused for a few months.

If they are made in Spain, I'd be afraid of them.

There have been long discussions on the Spanish made BP rifles and what I have ascertained is that it how they were proofed marked. I have been shooting a Traditions BP rifle for years and have no fear of catastrophic failures.

the one I picked up is very clearly marked "Made in Spain by ARDESA"...

that said.. everything I have seen related to failures in traditions firearms made in spain are limited muzzle loaders and is specific to problems with the barrels...

what I have seen has been controversial at best..

two things to consider here..

the outfitter is:
1) not a muzzle loader.. and
2) the barrel is not made by Ardesa..

the barrel on the outfitter is actually made in germany by lothar walther.. and then is assembled to the frame which is manufactured in Spain by Ardesa... and then is imported into the US by traditions..

I dont think anyone is questioning the quality of lothar walther (one of the finest european firearms manufacturers to ever turn out a barrel)...
