7-30 and bears
« on: September 28, 2003, 11:16:56 AM »
Is there any load for this caliber that is suitable for NY black bears. I have more confidence in my shot placement with this barrel than my 30/30.

Chez, just about any load in the 7-30 will work.  It's all in the shot placement. Hit them right, legs flop, they drop. Most bears taken in NY don't weigh more than 200 to 250 pounds.  I have seen them taken with 357 mags on up to the 30-06. If you get buck fever, leave the handgun home and take a rifle!

   While the 7-30 should kill most NY state Black bears, it would be a little light for any I've ever seen...because everyone I've ever seen always  presented a "Stern too" aspect as they were running away at top speed!!  Jeez, I hope I don't start another whole....can you kill an elephant with a 22 short strings....
