Speer 225 gr. bullets
« on: August 02, 2009, 03:31:28 PM »
Any of you guys ever used the speer 225 gr. .451 dia. bullet in the 45 colt for deer. I have a load that is accurate in my Blackhawk. It is with Blue Dot 15 grains it is listed in the manuel at 1290 fps. I get fair accuracy with it can keep all in a 8 in. pie pan at 40 yards off hand. Don't know how it will work on deer though. Any body use this bullet????????

I have used it and the SIERRA 240 .451dia bullets in SAA loads for deer. They worked well enough, expanded well and put venison in the freezer. I prefer a good wide flatpointed lead bullet for this level of load.

Loaded to 1200+ FPS should work OK. But I wouldn't go any higher and maybe even avoid larger bones at close ranges. This bullet was designed for under/at 1000fps performance.
