Barrel Swap question Rem870
« on: August 02, 2009, 03:34:58 PM »
I have both a 870 wingmaster before the Flexitab follower and a newer 870 express.  Are the barrels interchangeable as long as I adhere to the 2-3/4 and 3" in the respective recievers?  Mostly I want to put the field barrel from the wingmaster on the express since I long ago equiped the Wingmaster with a Scope and rifled barrel.

From what I understand there are a couple of different 870 models that have their own special barrels.
the EXPRESS.
Go to either Cabela's or hastings and look at thier barrels and they will let you know what barrel will fit on what frame.

the tab only helps eliminate jams , the 5 shot 870 bbl should fit . The "field" model had a 4 shot mag that allowed only 4 shots and the loop that rides over the magazine tube is in the wrong place . The first 20 ga's were built on 12 recivers and thus take a different bbl than the newer ones . I believe all 12 ga bbls except the "field" Mod will work even the 3.5 bbl . Its the reciver that dictates the length shell you need to use . I know of several 2 3/4 recivers that were reworked to shoot 3 inch shells and more than a few 2 3/4 bbls that were re-chambered to 3 inch. I have one old gun that came with the thin wall bbls ( before steel shot ) and the new heavy wall bbls fit it and its bbl fits the new reciver .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
