Front sight problems on 45LC BC
« on: August 02, 2009, 05:47:55 PM »
I have searched the FAQ and am unable to find an answer to my problem.  I purchased a new BC in 45LC (20" barrel) about a year ago then bought a Williams WGRS peep sight for the rear.  Their catalog called for a .571 front sight which I bought also.  Now it shoots several inches high at 25 yards with the rear sight in its lowest position.  It won't go any lower or the sight overhangs the receiver???  Anyway, my front sight is dovetailed into the barrel but I am being told to get a shorty ramp which attaches by screws.  ???

Just look in the catalogue and buy a taller front sight of the type you have on it now.  Larry

Welcome! The standard BC carbine sight is a Marbles, as Larry suggested, you need one that's taller than the .571" since it's made for the barrel sight, the WGRS sits on the chamber swell which raises the rear sight height. That's the highest sight Marbles makes, the link in the FAQs and Help sticky titled Peep and Firesights has links to Brownell's to compute sight height, a ramp would only work if you use a dovetail adapter with it which is a dovetail blank with a threaded mount hole in it. One option to get one high enough would be to use a globe front sight like the Lyman 17A.

Thanks everyone.  I knew I needed a taller sight...just thought maybe someone out there had experienced the same problem and could narrow it down a little more by telling me what worked for them.  Been waiting for an H&R catalog for 6 weeks now??  Think I might look at the Lyman 17T as suggested.
