if i had any say
« on: August 04, 2009, 03:18:56 AM »
we would let the population experience a while longer of this crappy situation...except cut govt help...let folk see what it is to do with out...mabe even lettum experience hunger....
all this so they can appreciate this country more...this might stop the population flow north also..
then tariffs on all imports.... make it so this people with the same potential they had before ww2,,,have to use it..
let no corp..or what ever sell cheap forighn goods here an drain the capitol
from the peoples pockets..capitalism works fine ,,but time for a little isolationism now..
close the southern border, what ever it takes...develope incentive for those already citizens to hold allegance to this country not a country in south america..smart people can figure out how to do that...
then make our own metals ,plastics, raw goods of all kinds...make products an let them find thier own cost an retail price ,,which is how capitalism of a protected version would work..
then the wages will find thier own level..
let corp america be just that,,corp america with a little loyalty to god an country...THIS ONE.
the golden days are gone... it be tough... complainers that been on welfare everywhere...
ithink this country could get up ..its taking the count now,an just don t know it...
but the count aint got to 10 yet... i seen a many o boxer get up from a 9 count ,survive the rnd an end up with mabe a knockout on his record ,,when he got his head to stop ringing...
it would not be be quite as simple as ive described but ,,i think its doable..
but get out you easy chair on vote day. get active...never aggree to disarm..
show the power of a people who want gov of the people ,by the people ,for the people...
the power of the people im speaking of is that in a real crunch on individual freedom they have what our forfathers intended ....the right to bear arms an right this --- ship ,,called the united states of america.. jmo  :) slim
ps the wife just came in ..i don t have time to edit this if it don t tie togather just right an make sense ;D

I agree, but I have in my mind a plan to get started.  Energy is one of our main problems and concern, imported oil, clean energy, etc.  Once we have a clean abundant source of various kinds of energy, prices will stabilise and people will have jobs.

1) Open up all American sources for drilling, and fast track the Alaska-Canadian natural gas pipeline via the Alaska Highway to the lower 48.

2) Get government to streamline the process for building nuclear power plants using navy guidelines.  The Navy has super safe nuclear ships and subs with very few problems.  Build enough to shut down coal plants.

3) Convert government vehicle fleets, including states, counties, and city vehicles to natural gas, give incentives to other fleets to convert like UPS, FedEx, etc.  (25% of vehicles in US are in fleets).  This would cut 40% of total imported oil.

4)  Remove government regs concerning diesel or improve them to allow more diesel cars and pickups.  You can get 7 more gallons of diesel out of a barrel of oil than you can gasoline.  Thereby cutting imports by another 20% or so.  85% of Germany's cars are diesel for that reason so they don't import as much oil.

5)  Put more effort into wind, solar, and tide energy where it is abundant like the plain states, the southwest, and coastal areas.

6) Encourage building synthetic fuel refineries making gasoline and diesel from coal replacing oil and keeping the coal industry alive with the shut down of coal power plants using nuclear, solar, wind, and tide energy.

7)  Encourage more use of fuel made from algae oil to replace the depleting oil supply because it is being depleted.  Most new sources are in Alaska and offshore, but some is in shale formations out west which is harder to extract.  Algae will keep the oil industry going.

These ideas will get all our energy produced at home, not having to buy from potential terroist supporting suppliers.  It will create good paying energy jobs at home.  It will also cut down on carbon emmissions from coal plants and burning less fuel with diesel and natural gas.

8)  In order to help bring industry back home, you can easily require all Federal products purchased must be manufactured in the USA.  You can also stipulate that all states, cities, and counties receiving government aid be required also to buy only American made products.  This would help bring back at least some textile industry for uniforms, etc.  Also, shoes, for boots and shoes for military and government workers.  It would require that all vehicles purchased by government be at least 75% manufactured in the US if not more.  Textiles and shoes require less skilled labor so a lot of people with minimum education can get decent jobs without being on the dole.

With all these people getting good jobs in the energy business and manufacturing being brought back home, that would help take care of a lot of the health care, because these industries will offer health insurance at work.

This would help stop or slow the trade deficit, get more taxes into the government coffers to balance the budgets, and solve the health care problem with less government interference.

Trade rules, regulations, and restrictions must be streamlined to do this.

Go back to the pre-1998 regulations for banks so as not to allow the financial problems that happened recently.  No more ARM's, no more home loans without down payments and a job to pay for the mortgages.

Also, build the fence on the southern border, and make all ILLEGALS return home to enter legally.  I'm not against legal immigration so we at least have time to screen out the criminals, potential terroists, and diseased people from entering the country.

I tried to find more recent stats, but in 2004 America spent $50 Billion on diet programs. For the sake of argument, lets say we spend that much on Fitness (Gym memberships, videos, home gym equipment). And lets say that number has increased in the last 5 years by half maybe? So total $150 Billion dollars (spit ball numbers) to be hungry, tired and in pain.

But cry out when it happens for free. Perhaps a little suffering, a little hunger, a little doing without ... perhaps that would be healthy for us all, and we'd lose that pesky belly fat the internet is telling me is bad.

DD, your #4 has recently been interesting to me as I'm researching using used cooking oil in a diesel. Friend of mine uses it solely in both his car and truck. A little extra effort, but the material is free, at least until they figure out its valuable. And with biodiesel, etc. it makes sense in the long and short run.

Personally I'm beginning to be more and more against immigration.  The USA has around 300,000,000 people living within it's borders.  How many MORE do we need?  Can't 300,000,000 million folks make more than enough babies???  Do we need to import from all over the world.  Heck, almost ALL of those countries have been around longer than the USA, they should be able to make their own country work by now.  If they can't do that, why do we want them in our country?

I say we build the fence and stop immigration.

It's not that I don't like other folks, but I don't understand why we NEED them in our land.

I've read about a guy in Wisconsin who used an average of 50% used veggie oil and 50% diesel in his truck without processing it into diesel.  He said in the winter, he put in maybe 10% because he needed almost pure diesel to start in cold weather.  In spring and fall about 50-50.  In summer it was about 25% diesel and 75% veg oil.  He just strained it through coffee filters and mixed it and poured it in his engine.  Cut his fuel bill dramatically.  He used an older diesel truck that was out of warrenty.  Said he has done this for 2-3 years with no problems.

In using vegetable oil, there is the added step of removing the glycerin, which, as I understand it, involves adding lye to the oil.  This basically the way soap is made.  Who knows, the whole process may be even cleaner if you end up with soap as a byproduct.  One of the delivery drivers in our area has been running his truck on biodiesel for years.

In looking at some agricultural statistics, in the horse-drawn era, about 20% of the arable land in the US was used for animal feed.  I suspect if we have to count on biological sources for fuel, the numbers would be similar, or even higher, since we would be using it for transportation also.  Taking that much land out of human food consumption might have a remarkable effect on the obesity statistics.
