Anyone using a Savage 10ML muzzleoader?
« on: August 04, 2009, 05:34:04 AM »
I'm dreading my next trip to the range, because I'll be taking my encore muzzloader.  All things considered it's not bad for a muzzleloader but it seems to me like there's an easier way and Savage figured it out.  It takes me more time to clean the encore than it takes me to shoot the thing.  On my next trip to the range I just want to confirm my scope settings at different distances and then put it away for hunting season.

The Savage 10ML series muzzleloaders can also use smokeless power which saves time and energy cleaning up the rifle.

Does anyone here hunt with a savage muzzleloader?

Bought one last Jan. Going to take it bear hunting this Fall.I like the savage the best of all the MLs I own.I just use smokless in mine,I clean it after about 75 shots. It takes less time to clean, than any other gun I own.

I have a Savage, for just the reason you are saying.
I am tired of cleaning muzzleloaders.
It is great to shoot a deer, spend all morning gutting and quartering the deer.
The Savage is back in the corner of the closet, no need to clean it this year!

I have had mine for 6 years. I was shooting 1 1/2 inch groups right out of the box. Also, more power than any other muzzleloader.

Aim small don't miss.

When I first got mine,it shot great,I had to change recoil lug,and glass bed the action. Now it really is a shooter. The stock recoil lug, was not touching the stock square.Mine seems to kick plenty,shooting,45 gr AA 5744,so this winter I will put on a good recoil pad.

Yep, they are great. I bought one last fall. I use AA5744 also. Shoots almost any sabot round with good accuracy. I use Harvestor Crush Rib sabots for ease of loading. I have used a variety of cast and jacketed bullets with this sabot with good accuracy results. Buy one, you will never regret it.

I have had one for about 3 years now and really like it.  One season my wife used her Encore for 6 weekends during season and and I used mine for 3 weekends.  That was a lot of cleaning that I decided I did not need to do anymore.  I switched but she still uses the Encore.  My Savage shoots great, rarely needs cleaned and still loads from the muzzle.  Not to mention no crud rings and blowback in the firing pin mechanism (Encore) to eventually cause problems.  If I had any gripe about it the weight would be it, but mine is the laminated stock version which does weigh the most.  A better mousetrap in my opinion.

I cannot figure out why Savage didn't advertise the heck out of the unique qualities of their muzzle loader!  I would bet that the lawyers were worried that some neophyte would use smokeless in some other companies gun and then file suit against Savage for encouraging their stupid act.

Mine is the pre-accutrigger plastic stocked model.  Mine isn't for sale!

The Savage is very well built, and very cheap to shoot. It's a good ML for anyone.

I too have the classic, black plastic stock pre-Accutrigger.

I shoot 43 grains of Vihtavouri N110 and the 250 SST.
It really hammers the deer with a lung shot!

Mine isn't for sale, either, it is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.

I have a Sightron 3-9 S2 scope, that is one fantastic scope for the Savage.
Aim small don't miss.

Love my savage ml's. Have a henry ball one of 500 that has some added touches. Other is stnl/syn. both with good glass. I shoot 250 gr. xtp, mmp sabot ,& 44 gr. of 5744 . This has been a great deer load. holds up good . Some of my shots approached 200 yds. Great bullet performance. If you shoot anything but smokeless better clean her up good.
