Artwork for Carronader
« on: August 06, 2009, 09:31:44 AM »
Here you go, Carronader; this type of stubby, and homely naval ordnance even had its uses in peacetime, in this case as a feeder for sheep. :D

Artist: Sir Henry Edwin Landseer. Title: Peace

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

I will add his proportions on the Carronaid are off a tad..... look at the clunky oversized trunnion on it; it just looks wrong.
As far as his political vent, there were dreamers in every age, I am guessing he was fairly well off, so he could afford to dream - a luxury
most artists of the time didn't have. especially in the print medium one of the cheaper forms of art at the time.
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

Carronader,

No, I do not like that picture; while I think that trying to attain, and maintain peace are noble endeavours, this British allegorical piece is a little too syrupy for my tastes.
When Landseer was constrained to painting just animals, with no people in the composition, he was more than capable of achieving fine results.
Well, that's enough of my art criticism.

KABAR2, you're right, that under barrel lug on the carronade looks beefy enough to handle the recoil of a HUNDRED POUNDER carronade. :D
