ss, beaver are commonly shot here in Wy. It is legal, and they can be taken on private land when doing damage. Some of the most popular calibers are of course, the .222, 223, and .22-250. Over the years, I have shot a few. They all floated when shot with the above calibers. I am not sure if it has something to do with killing quickly or not. For my part, the common .22 's killing power stops with forest squirrel and rabbits. I know much larger animals have been taken with them, BUT for every one take I would wager 20 are crippled to die later.
No animal deserves that, not even an old skunk.
