CZ-82 vs PA-63
« on: August 08, 2009, 12:38:13 PM »
There are quite a few compact semi autos on the surplus market these days and I'm considering a 9x18mm for a light carry piece. I'm debating between the Czech CZ-82 and the Hungarian PA-63. I know the Czechs build a quality gun and that would be hands down first choice except it is a double stack and thus has a pretty wide butt. I don't think nearly so well of Hungarian guns but I've heard good reports on the PA-63 and it is slimmer and flatter than the CZ plus a bit cheaper. What do folks here think of them?

I have a PA63 9x18 that I handload for and it is the most accurate semi-auto pistol I have shot.  I don't really like bottom feeders but I bought this little pistol because it was small and inexpensive for a CCW gun.  The only complaint I have with it is the trigger sucks but that is true of any DA/SA I have ever shot.  It goes bang every time I squeeze/jerk the trigger on it.  I have no experience with the CZ pistols.   I have had the PA63 for a couple years and I believe I gave about  $160-$170 for the gun and two mags, and the pistol looked almost new condition.

I forgot to mention that the choice of holsters for the hungarian is really limited.  I have heard that some of the holsters for the Walther PPK will also will work for these but I don't know for sure.

I had a PA-63 & it was totally dependable + accurate enough to hit a playing card at 25 yards all the time if you shot well.   Sold it to a friend.  Damn.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Just a suggestion, look at the Polish P-64 before you buy.  They are all in the same price range but the P-64 is a much better made and finished gun.  It is the same size as a Kel-Tek PF-9, but all steel and weighs three times as much.  It is not a bad little carry gun, but it will also bite your hand if you don't watch.  I carried mind with the thought I would rather have my hand bitten than be caught without one.

Thanks for all of the replies! I've looked at the P-64 and dismissed it as a bit too small for my hands.
Well I've decided, despite all the praise for the PA-63 to jump in with the CZ-82. Just because I like the quality of the several Czech guns I presently own and bad experiences with a couple of Hungarian pistols.
