I had green fried tomatoes and fried Zucchini with my dinner tonight. Boy was it good. I only picked a few green tomatoes (the size of my fist) for my wife to fry up. She nor my daughter eat tomatoes that way. The Zucchini came from a neighbor. I have never liked Zucchini until this year. It is strange I seem to like different things as I get older. I also dislike many things I always liked as I get older. For example pizza. I have loved it my whole life. Now I can't eat but a couple pieces and I am sick of it. When I was young I could eat a whole pie myself. It just does not apeal to me any longer. Then there is the heart burn thing that goes with it at 2:00am in the morning. Well I had good eats tonight and my pole beans will be ready in a couple weeks. I can't wait for some ham and beans. Dale

MUMMMMM MUMMMMMM sounds good to me....

We're starting to get a lot of stuff out of the garden.

I'm having a terrible time with Tomatoes this year.  I got the garden in late, but Tomatoes usually grow well here......not this year....

Yea my tomatoes are not doing as good as other years but I will still have lots of them. They claim there is something affecting them here in PA this year. It might be blight but not sure. I have something else affecting my tomatoes this year and I will have to move my garden next year. Dale

Dale have your wife and daughter tried the fried green tomaotoes? THis year was the first Itime I have ever had them, everyone agrees that they are delicious. A little ranch dressing really fixes them up. My daughter just got home from basic friday night and she just attacked the fried green maters. You can keep that zucchini though. The maters are mall here this year too, but I am just starting to get some ripe ones too. MMMMM MMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMM

Oh yeah been eatin cuc's too yummy.

Don't even mention tomatoes!
I put 24 beefsteak plants in.
THEY ANI'T BEEFSTEAKS!!!!!
Expecting tomatoes the size of your fist and getting tomatoes smaller than a baseball is a heart breaker. :(
Must of put the wrong tags on them at the greenhouse >:(
But!!  my 48 pepper plants is unbelievabe!
Each plant has 15-20 peppers growing on them and new blossoms budding too.
We've picked over 400 peppers 6"-8"  already this year.
Never seen them grow this good before!

I worked up an appetite this morning riding my mountain bike.  After showering I went looking for something to eat.  I got out the cutting board and cut up a baked potato left over from dinner the night before, put some olive oil in a frying pan, added the potato, half a cut up red Spanish onion, and a red tomato and added them to the pan.  After the potatoes browned up I added the last of Jack Cheese, and cheddar Cheese from the frig.  In the process I added some garlic salt and pepper.  After the cheese started melting I added a couple of eggs.

Made for a good brunch with a few mugs of coffee for a chaser.

At my age such a meal needs to be followed up with a little nap.

Love a garden but the deer would have it eaten down to nothing, so store bought is the option with a little homemade venison sausage.

Dale, can you grow okra that far north?  It is delicious fried.  You can also cut it up and boil it with red tomatoes for a gumbo.  My stepson is a chef and lives in Illinois.  He said anything tastes better fried.  Try to get your wife and daughter to at least take one bite.  They can always reject it.  My grandmother told me a long time ago as a child, to always try something once.  You might like it.  I have and I like almost anything.  Don't like crab, and found out I was allergic to crab.  Only meat I am allergic to.  I am mildly allergic to tomatoes, but eat them anyway because I like the taste, but have to limit myself.  I causes me to have heartburn and gurd at night.  I usually don't eat them at night.

I have eaten fried Okra before when I lived in Florida. I did like it. I don't know if it can be grown up here or not. I really don't see why not though. Dale

It likes hot weather.  We can't plant it in central Alabama until May to get it growing good, and it doesn't start producing for a couple of months.  However, once it starts, it will produce until frost.  You could probably start it in a green house or a hot bed cover over where you plant it in the ground earlier to get it going.  You know fried green tomatoes should be eaten as soon as the come off the stove.  Once cold they are not as good.  They also seem to taste better to me if they have a slight tinge of red/orange or just starting to turn.  Not much though.

I know the ground has to be warm for them to germinate, no need to,plant until late spring early summer

To get okra or spring spinach to come up cover the row with clear plastic and keep it damp. You can get it up a little bit earlier.

Something I like with vegtables from the garden is something we call hot mix. Its cabbage, sweet bell pepper, onion, zucchini, hot peppers, hot sausage, and a good sized tomato all cooked together. The hot sausage should be cut up and fried first before adding to the mix. Eat it with good Italian bread. If ya have a garden its a good cheap meal, and its good.
After eating this you can leave the metamucil in the cupboard for a couple of days you won't need it.

That really does sound good and I will give it a try. I think I would use sweet italian sausage instead of the hot because with the Jalapeno peppers I have I think it would be plenty hot. Or I could use the Hungarian hot wax peppers I have in the garden. That will set you on fire. :o Do you boil the cabbage a little first? Dale
