If you don't mind used, you can usally pick up a Leupy in 2x7 or 3x9 for less then 200. I picked up 1 of each this past winter off e-bay. IMO, you can't beat there warrenty, from everything I've heard. I never had to deal with them personally. There scopes are just that good.

Sightron S2 3-9. I have one on my Savage, what a great scope.

Here they are for $250, I don't know if they can be found cheaper:

Check out the reviews. Twelve reviews, and every one gives 5 gold stars.
Made in Japan, lifetime warranty.

Here they are for $219

A 2-7 Burris FF will work in that range.

Bushnell Banner or Bushnell Trophy are well within your price range.

I have four Nikon ProStaff scopes (two 2-7x32mm and two 3-9x40mm) and they have done very well for me.

Below is a .45 cal Knight Disc Elite with steel Weaver bases and the 3-9x40mm mounted in low Warne QR steel rings.

I have Weaver V9 3-9x38 scope on my T/C 209x50 Encore rifle barrel that I bought new in 1998 for $120.00.

I used it on my Ruger M77 MKII 270 Winchester in 2007 to kill 2 deer then switch it too my Encore since I picked up a used Leupold 3-9x40 scope on here for $190.00.  Now the Ruger wears the Leupold.
