First post, First NEF (H&R), First Issue with Gun
« on: August 11, 2009, 05:39:20 AM »
Hi folks.  Just stepped in.  Hope to learn a thing or two.

Last night, I bought a NIB Youth Handi-rifle in .243.  I just love the look and feel of these guns and I hope my kids can get years of use out of this one.  I took it out of the box when I got home and was surprised at the amount of play in the action.  I can grab the grip and the forearm and twist in opposite directions and see the end of the barrel wiggling against the receiver ever so slightly.  I'm guessing this is not normal but wanted another opinion.

I guess this thing needs to take a trip back to NY?

Thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

Casey

Welcome! If that's with the action closed, yes, it needs to go back for repair. If it's while the action is open, it matters not. Contact H&R toll free at (866)776-9292 to make arrangements for them to cover return shipping to Ilion.  ;)

Actually, it's both.  I'll get in touch with them.  I find it a tad irritating to send a brand new gun back in, but still believe it's a quality rifle.  My friends that own them sure are fond of them.

Thanks for the help and the number.  Any idea if they can get it back to me by Labor Day weekend?

Repairs can take as little as 2 weeks, but it all depends on what they need to do, they'll have to replace the barrel more than likely unless it's a broken latch, if they don't have the barrel in stock it could take a long time.

Return shipping label is on its way.  I had to ask for it, though.

Thanks Quickdtoo.

If it were a quality rifle, you wouldn't have to send it back in! Let's face it, they are what they are, and that is a FAR cry from what they used to be ;)
