Todays update on the 35 whelen bbl
« on: August 11, 2009, 10:56:18 AM »
This morning I spoke with Ron at Rem cs in regards to the 35 whelen bbl. He was very helpful with my concern. About 3 to 4 weeks ago I sent in my frame, stock etc, for the new 35 w. I thought that if I get it to them, maybe they would put mine in line for one of the first. I think they have already completed the trigger job, and are waiting for the completed bbl. Ron told me that the barrel is a definite GO. They should be in production Oct, Nov or by the end of the year. Here in Mississippi. the 35 is legal during muzzle season. I can't imagine the 35 taking presedence over that lovely 45 70 lady friend of mine. That 35 really could be an all around do all rifle. Then I would only need one Handi. ;D ;D ;D   You bet!! ;D ;D   Any way guys, I hope to be one of the first to give the report on the 35 w. That probably won't happen caus I bet Tim is already in line ahead of me. Already loading for it. Just have to wait. ::) ::)

Spanky... I didn't ask about the 35 REM. I didn't want to push too hard. Customer service is like a tube of tooth paste. Just squeeze a little bit at a time. The 35 Rem is legal here in MS. It's a dandy cartridge but I love the history behind the Whelen. Bad part about this is. After the 35W, what's next? The disease continues.

I have a .35 Whelen bolt rifle and will probably get a Handi Whelen also but I would really love a .35 Remington Handi. The Whelen is one of those great cartridges that works great with no questions asked. ;)

Have you ran any of you 06 cases thru the 35W die. I ran about 50 thru mine, but have not loaded them. I hear that this method makes a fine reload. I really don't know yet. Reloading for a rifle I don't have. ;D ;D Something is wrong here. I guess it's part of the addiction.

I'm sorry to say it but I haven't reloaded for my Whelen (yet) I have been shooting 250 gr. Remington Core Lokt ammo out of it.

I've already got two 35 Whelen H&Rs, a '96 RMEF Ultra and a 2006 Handi which I had rechambered to 35 Whelen Improved, don't have my name on a new barrel for that reason. Don't plan on having them as accessory barrels this year even tho production is scheduled, see the 35 Whelen sticky for details. Remington has no plans to offer accessory 35 Whelen barrels this year, they might offer them for out of stock replacements for existing orders tho, that would be on an individual basis.  The 35 Remington isn't planned for production at all, it was dropped in favor of the 35 Whelen.

That sucks. :(
Was there not enough interest in the 35 Remington to make it worthwhile?
I guess there is always the .357 Mag to .35 Remington rechamber option. ;)

Not enough distributor pre-orders for the 35 Rem for them to proceed with the testing, same as the Handi-Mags. The Mississippi primitive season market is the main driving factor in production decisions, the 35 Whelen was already popular, but the no fire problems killed it originally, so they had those production figures to look at to see how popular it was, kind of a no brainer if they could make it reliable.

Larry has ya covered tho!!  ;D

I'm guessing the 35 Rem would have to be done on a machine and not by hand, am I correct?  DP

dpe.ahoy - you have to remove way too much material to do that one by hand. ;)

It's kind of too bad that in this country it seems that everything has to be the biggest available to get any attention. In the shooting world, that means that nice, and useful rounds go by the wayside except when nostalgia kicks in it seems. On the other hand, many companies, and marketing types forget how Bill Ruger made millions of dollars........ Did he not provide what others didn't? Since the Handi is in a niche market anyway, that might cause some thought. I sure would like a dollar for every gun that Bill sold that was in a caliber not offered by other compainies at the time. :D :D

Bought some 22 shot shells in my candy store today and see a 35 Whelen on the shelf with a red tag for $219.95, been on the shelf for a year, so gonna move it out.  Friend behind the counter said if you want it wait till the 28th and an extra 10% off.  Call and let me know if ya want it and I'll stick it behind the corner.  It's an HX serial number, should I jump :-\, I just hate to let a new Handi get by me for $200.00.  DP

DP   Go ahead and jump. "He who hesitates is lost" I probably would have brought it home that very day. If the guy behind the counter is a friend, you have just found yourself a goody. When you get it, you can sell all of your other Handies, ;D ;D because the 35W is the do all. Oh yea, don't get rid of the 45 70 or the 3006 or the 357 or the-----------Don't get rid of anything. Just enjoy that 35. I am in the process of getting a 35W bbl for my Savage 110, plus waiting for the 35w, now at Rem. Enjoy it my friend.

                                 Good shooting to you
