Leupold!!!!!! but I'm thinking you wont get one for 200 unless its a used one!

Now Nikon makes some good uns for about that!

Sure a 4-12 would do but so would a 3-9 and would likely be a lot more practical for your use. You should easily be able to pick up a used Vari-X or VX II 3-9 for that price and can also get a Rifleman new for about same money. I'd go for a used Vari-X or VX II over the new Rifleman personally but either would do fine for you.

That you had to ask tells me you have no business shooting at game at 400 to 500 yards. If your shooting skills were up to the task you'd already know what scope to get.

I agree with GB, Good used Leupold VX-II or Vari-X II 3-9x40 would be your best choice.  Totally covered by warranty and will never let you down.  Leupold is all I buy anymore new or used, anything else isn’t worth my money.

I've had my eye on Sightron for a while. I've had good luck with most scopes that I've owned (except pentax, short eye relief).

Lots of interesting ratings

Tonight, I just bought another used Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x40 for $175.00 free shipping.

Thank makes 4 Leupold scopes that I have bought for under $200.00 which includes shipping from auction sights and one from Graybeard Outdoors.  They include 1- VX-III, 1-VX-III and 2- Vari-X II's.

I have learned that patience pay off every time for me.
