Where to send bbl for EDM ?
« on: August 13, 2009, 03:24:39 AM »
Have an old family gun that needs a liner. Not valuable by any means, but its been in the family 100 yrs or so and I'd like to get it shooting. Its had the bbl drilled from both ends, but has a "wiggle" in the hole. I'm afraid inlarging the hole might go through the side. Anybody know where I might send it to have it straightened using an EDM?

You don't say what kind of gun it is, but that is a real deep burn for an EDM if it is a rifle.  I know makers using EDM for chambering barrels, but I have not heard of using one for boring them.

I would take the rifle to an experienced smith. If the hole is too far off it may not be a candidate for lining. The process of affixing the liner fills in minor voids but if the is enough of a bobble there may be a problem. Redmans makes and installs liners and should be able to help you. He has a page or so I thought but after the computer died I haven't located him.. A google search should do it though. Remember that to send a rifle through the mail to customize or get it repaired does not require a FFL and it can go USPS.. Handguns are a different as USPS won't take them, require FedEx or UPS(I refuse to use UPS)..
