I would like to go out sometime with a tape and try to bag a grey fox and maybe some coons.  I am not looking to get into this too seriously just a couple evenings in the fall.  What tape should I get?  

I plan on using a 10" .223 Contender with a red dot scope.  I was also planning on just using a boom box.  Anything else I need?

I have a few on tape and converted them to MP-3 format.

I went to ebay and got a nice mp-3 player for something like $20 and can go to radio shack and get a set of battery powered computer speakers for under $20.

I can get up to 4 hours of calls on my  mp-3 player (you can now get them about the size of a high lighter) It only takes a few munits to put the calls that are needed on the player.

When you are not hunting with it, you can put on the headphones  load up some music and go fora walks or run. I use mine when i am doing yard work.

Not knowing where in the country you are, I'll go with what works well out west.   Sound wise I'd probably go with a high pitched (younger) rabbit tape or a bird distress (Yellowhammer Woodpecker or similar) for the fox.   Nobody likes a good fight like a coon does... you might try either a coon squaller or fight tape for them - or the bird distress.

Boombox will work, although far from the best choice.   Continous calling is not as good as some breaks in the sequence (in fact, more breaks than calling), and that takes a remote unless you have the box right next to you.   Box 20-30 yards away (upwind) is more effective as it takes the predators focus off you somewhat to let you get your gun up, etc.  (and I know because I only call with mouth calls and so I AM the center of attention when they get close).

I have too had good luck with the Yellowhammer woodpecker tape for grey foxes and some type of bird in distress tape for the coons too the yellowhammer will work on coons too VM

Try Dennis Kirk' s tape coon puppies!This is a baby coon in distress and it works excelent.My Johny Stewart caller battery finaly went dead after 15 year so I used a boom box.Worked ok but it sure got bunged up. This sound brings coons right in your lap. :shock:
