CZ/Huglu choke tubes
« on: August 16, 2009, 04:25:38 AM »
I bought a used CZ Mallard and need an improved cyl tube.  I was wondering if any other brands would work as they might be easier to find.

I "think" they use Berretta tubes but check that out to be sure don't just buy one. I'm pretty sure it was a Huglu I bought and used Berretta tubes for but it's been awhile so I don't want to steer you wrong.

If not then almost everyone else uses Winchester tubes.

Just go to choketubes.com (Carlson's chokes) and there's a chart on their website listing what kind of tubes they take.

From past experience I can tell you the 20 ga Huglu chokes are different from Benelli type.  They look the same at first glance, but have slightly different threads.  12 gauge may interchange, I don't know.

Whatever it was I used was 20 gauge. It might have been for my BSA SxS 20 that I had to buy Berretta tubes.

Thanks for the ideas and input.   I think the older Beretta/Benelli mobile chokes might work.  If the thread pitch is the same.   The chokes are 2" with the threads at the top.  I'll see if my hunting buddies' Benelli choke will fit before I order one.

When you try them DON'T FORCE IT.  I know the B/B mobile choke looks the same, but it is different from the Huglu.
The mobile choke will start and you can turn it easy for a half-turn or so then it stops - just don't force it beyond that point or it will damage the threads.

I too thought they looked the same, so I bought 2 mobile chokes and then discovered they wouldn't fit.  Luckily I was able to exchange them for the correct ones.

I found and bought a set of four Huglu chokes on a gun auction site.  At $36 including shipping, they were cheaper than any other brands and I am sure they will fit.   Thanks for the input guys.

Have a look at this chart:
