My good friend and neighbor may have liver cancer.
« on: August 16, 2009, 03:46:02 PM »
Well guys my good friend and neighbor most likely has liver cancer. Last week when I was in our smimming pool relaxing after work my neighbors wife come home. I waved to her like I always do. She come over to the pool and was pretty upset. I asked what was up? She said she is just getting back from the hospital. She said John ( her husband ) woke up at 4:00 am with chest pains and told her to take him to the hospital right away. She went on to say that they think he had a heart attack. I tried to comfort her the best I could and she then went home. The next morning I went by the hospital to visit him. He seemed fine and in good spirts. He joked with me and said hell if I knew you were comming I would have had you bring me a six pack. We have drank together often and he is a heavy drinker. Well today I was out watering the garden and here comes John. I said to him well you look good. When did you get out? He said he got out of the hospital Thursday because Bridget ( his wife ) had to fly to Texas and he needed to be home to take care of their dog. I said so what did they find out? He said when Bridget gets back he has to go in for more tests. I said well then they don't know whats up then huh? He said they think it is liver cancer. I was pretty much floored when he said that. I did not show it though. So now he is at home alone during this crisis. He said if you don't see me for a couple days there is a key to my house under my door matt. I said joking you don't plan of checking out in the next couple days do ya? He said what ever happens to me happens but I am worried about the dog. If I do check out she will need food and water. We went on talking for a bit and he has no plans of quiting drinking or taking Cemo. He said drinking is one of the things I most enjoy and I am not going to prolong things with cemo. He said this in a laughing way. He said the only other option would be a liver transplant and they arn't giong to do that for me being a heavy drinker and all. First off why would his wife take a trip to Texas ( to see her daughter ) at a time like this. That kind of pisses my wife and I off. My wife said she would never take a trip if something like that were to happen to me. I may be reading into this a little more than I should. You guys don't think he plans on doing something stupid do you? I don't think John would take his own life but what do I know. I told him I would check in on him everyday until his wife gets back. This does sadden me because he is a friend of about 7 years now and he really is a good guy. Dale

It's one of those things where there is nothing you can do but offer support.  From past experience, if you hear a gun shot in the middle of the night, don't go over, call the police and let them handle it.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Maybe it's time for Dale to stop drinking. Sorry about your friend I would check on him every day until his wife gets back.

You read my mind. I have been thinking about that the better part of the day. I am not sure how much better mine is though? I would do that for him though. Dale
