I don't know about that Lloyd...  My 5 shot guns have all gone to the larger frame are 45 and up.   Look at that all that steel in the 6 shot cylinder...  For a sho nuf smokin reloader the 44 Special case should just leave more room for more bullet.... I plan to take the slow and easy route.   I primed 500 new Starline 44 Special cases last night...  Planning to drop a few grains of Unigue and seat some some 250K SWCs tonight.... I'll wear the new off this sucker in no time...

I just have an itch for a lightweight 44 mag 5 shot on a small framed ruger. I know there would be some limitations on bullet seating dept but it sure would make for a light compact powerful holster gun. Being on a fixed income now i doubt if any customs are in my future though, at least for a while.

Axehandle, I love it! You left out one important figure - the price! (Don't worry, I'm sitting down!)

That is a beautiful handgun and one you can rightfully take pride in.  Myself, I've always lusted after an Andy Horvath round butt light weight conversion with a 3 1/2" barrel.  44 Man

Price?   Now isn't like asking the wife how much she weighs?..... ::)   Let's just say that it was priced like any top line Clements or Bowen....  NOT CHEAP!

Axe;
I DO admire your beautiful revolver. I like just about every detail that is shown (including but not limited to the interchangeable front sight, the Belt Mountain Pin, the barrel band that stops the ejector rod housing from "ejecting", the grips, just about everything). However, I am NOT ready to put up the money for that bad baby and will just have to satisfy myself with the 5˝" .44 Lipsey Special I purchased a couple of months ago. However, I am LIKIN' the Lipsey Special, I am, I am...

My obvious plan has been to embrace the term "AND"   That said I need to make the next step with my own Lipsey's 44.... Make it my own personal #5.  FWIW the local Ruger emporium has received a pair of polished stainless Bisley Vaquero 357s that look like a fine starting platforms for a personal "#5"

Dale, is that Lipsey a 5 or 6 shot?

Axe, that is sure a wonderful looking iron!  I've been getin a real itch for a nice, strong and accurate .44 special...I've never had one, but from what I've read about the caliber, it should do everything that I ever wanted a .44 mag to do, but in a smaller, lighter package.

  How does the frame size on this revolver compare to the origional 44mag. Blackhawks?

  When i wanted what i thought was the "ultimate" 44 spl., i picked the S&W "K" frame, and it's been a great revolver...

That's another question I have.  I went to the Ruger website to compare the specs of the new .44 spl to the other existing (large frame) single action revolvers.

According to the Ruger website, they are the same weight.  However I think that the weight is just an automatic entry without adjusting for actual varainces..for example the 6 1/2" bbl is the same weight as the 4 5/8".

I was under the impression that the .44 spl conversion was built upon a smaller size frame than the current blackhawks/superblackhawk.

Cayoot;
The Ruger .44 Lipsey Special is a six shot on the old .357 size frame (similar to the New Vaquero frames). Think Colt Single Action Army frame size with modern steels and modern lock work. One very nice innovation in these new frames is that the new pawl design that allows for MUCH easier loading and unloading. If you turn the cylinder a bit too far on the older Rugers your only option was to run the cylinder a full revolution to get back in line. The new one allows you to back up to align. Further, there is a noticeable "click" when you are in the proper position to load or unload. The New Vaqueros, the 50th Anniversaries, and the Lipsey all have this new pawl. It is a neat innovation that was only fifty years "a-coming".

  I'm still confused here, isn't the "origional" blk. hawk 44 mag. (flat top) frame size, the same as the 357 frame size?

No the original BH 44 Mag cylinder frame and cylinder are the same size as the current 44 Mag..   The 44 Specials are the size of the original 357 which are commonly referred to as mid size...  The weight comparison is flawed because the original guns had alloy frip frames.   The anniversary 357s and the Lipsey's 44 Specials are mid size guns but have steel grip frames.
