This doesn't sound like a very good deal. The lam.stock 597's sold for around $400 and they are offering a voucher for $250. Seems to me Remington sold a faulty firearm in the first place.
I think a replacement gun of equal value would be more fair.
$10 for ammo that cost $14 to $15 doesn't sound fair either.

how are the guns AND ammo bad, or are they just wanting to get abused guns (by the bad ammo) out of people's hands before issues arise???

All the guns that were made on the 597 were flawed to start with.  The 17hmr and the 22s.  They should have to eat the whole thing for peddling such a crappy product.  The 597 was the last remington I'll ever buy.

According to my Blue book $ 250 would be a fair price for one in between 95 and 98% condition, but that was befor the recall. As for the ammo recall, as I read it, The ammo is good if shot in bolt guns and the buying back of ammo is just to help out the guy`s that got stuck buying a junk gun. Seems to me though that you should at least get a voucher for what you paid for the gun. I also see where Win. doesn`t want their .17 HMR ammo shot in semi-autos.

I called remington on Tuesday and they said they would rebarrel the recalled guns to .22 WMR.
I guess they figured it was cheaper to put on a new barrel, plus I think they took a little heat because of the paltry rebate offer. Thanks to all you posters who voiced your opinions.
