Darn Wolves
« on: August 20, 2009, 04:04:57 AM »
Just got in from Elk hunting just across the border into Utah from where I live in SW Wyoming. Saw a few elk, all running and all were being chased by wolves. I do a lot of coyote hunting and have been calling in more wolves lately than coyotes. Don't beleive the animal rights nuts that say the wolves will never leave yellowstone. Won't be long before they are everywhere again. We are 300 miles away from yellowstone and they are getting pretty thick here. The game and fish department has reduced elk tag numbers because of the predation by wolves. The stats showed 94% of the elk calf crop was killed by wolves last year in yellowstone and we have them here now. You guys in Idaho, Montana, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico have a plague headed your way. I have always followed game laws to the letter but it sure is getting hard not to shoot wolves when they come in to my call. Real hard.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

Dog Shooter...

Slip across the state line to Idaho and you can buy your tag now.  Should make for some top end varmit calling.

I just got my tag today, but the area I will be hunting does not open til Oct. 1.

Like Blueduck I'd be interested in knowing what sounds are producing your wolf responses.  If you think coyotes  "wise up fast" just wait til these big dogs start getting their hides burned with some 3000 fps near misses.  We'll be talking Houdini who only does tricks at night.

I just got my "Montana Outdoors"  put out by MT Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.   Eight of the 41 pages were devoted to the Wolf.   They're having their first "legal" wolf season with a quota of 75 wolves to be taken.  They estimated a minimum population of 497.  They won't tell how many they have destroyed for killing domestic livestock.   I'll keep my thoughts to myself since I won't be hunting in MT this year but you guys in the wolf areas have my sympathy.  S..S..S..
