Ok, I just read to page 11 and had to jump to p.19 to see if the thread was still active. It is, it is. it's 4:00 AM and my eyes are bloodshot red and the 4 footed wife (cat) is B**chin' to be fed. So,I'll make this short, but I'll be back.

first post on site: I'm 65,poor,on SS and all I have is 1) 30-30 ultra Handi 2) one 12GA. H&R shotgun (old--like me) shoots good though (like me  ;D  ::) ) 3) One H&R pistol. Sorry guys, the disease is starting to really entrench, but don't have a lot of cash to keep purchasing ---- besides I have to feed my other 47 toys! Thank God that I reload. Best to all.

ETA: Ultra Handi is in 30-30. I am AMAZED at it's accuracy. Now I have to clean the copper out of it so that it can be used for cast only. I LOVE cast shooting.

OK, I back for a short while. thanks for the welcome. Again, I pulled an allnighter and I think that I may terminally deranged. since I have been retired, I have about 4-5 gun forums and 1 scambaiting forum that I go to and let me tell you you guys are addictive. ::) I have quite a collection that I have amassed over the years and I'm now just starting back into enjoying them. the single shots are addictive--I really enjoy them, especially the fact that I slow down my shooting when at the range, which allows me to enjoy the sport more over a longer period of time. ;D. When I went out to the storage shed I found a large stash of  reloading goodies that I had forgotten. Whooha. BUT, 95% of it was Jacketed stuff. At my age I'm really more into the cast game. Just the same it is nice to have all the condom stuff if I "need" it. Cast is just more fun to me. Had a really nice thing happen to me the other day-- Just happened to stop a yard sale and found a box of molds.  Asked the lady running the sale what she wanted for them, not anticipating that I would start a tirade! All she wanted to do was complain about the "lazy Ba**ard" that she had to put up with while he was alive and all that he wanted to do was reload and shoot. I commiserated with her for about 20 minutes and when she finally ran out of steam, asked again what she needed for them. 12 molds ---------10.00  :o ;D . Don't how I did it, but did manage to maintain a straight face. Looked at them for a few seconds, maybe 30, and mentioned that several of the "iron" molds were pretty rusty. She said "alright--what the h3ll--gimme 5.00 bucks and take the g**dam box and get it out of my sight".  Yes, ma'am. Here's 5.00, ma'am. I'll take them out of your sight right now, ma'am. Thank you, ma'am. And brother did I haul butt fast before she could change her mind. On the way home I said a prayer to God for him and explained to God that he probably died just to get away from her and to take good care of him.  :)  The molds are fairly rusty, but I do think that they can be brought back into shape. I have patience. It will give me a large amount of pleasure to resurrect these babies. I haven't taken a good look yet as to what I have but will enjoy it when I do. I have this perverse habit of forcing myself NOT to immediately jump into what I find when I get a good deal. Anticipation--it's sort like sex--waiting and thinking about it just builds the pleasure ;D Course, mostly memories :-[ :D Had a really good day. Woke up and realized I was still breathing  and  "The Wife" (cat) was in a good mood and all lovey (she got fed faster because of it) and THEN found all those molds. AND to top all off--the wonderful AGONY OF EXPECTATION ;D. Have a Blessed Great Day, ya'll

Hey, BikerBeans: Do they make the Ultra handi in 45-120 or is that something that you had done? If you had it done, what are the basics and how much did it cost? Also--very IMPORTANT--how much does it HURT to shoot as compared to the 454-70? Old arthritic and bursitic shoulders can not take a lot of pain. would it be worthwhile to have that much difference from a 45-70 if shooting reduced loads? Sound stupid, I know, but I really don't know the answers. thanks and have a Blessed Day ;D

GOF,

I am responsible for the 45 120 "Ultra".  I don't believe H&R has offered the 45 120 chambering.  In my crappy pic, the handi frame and stock set is from an Ultra, a 223 Rem.  The barrel is a 32" BC that I just reamed out this week to 45 120.  Look in the FAQs sticky, and ctrl "f" search for "rechamber" and it will tell you how to do it.  Does not take very long, you do need to remove the ejector/extractor, remove the barrel and the scope, all of which is also explained in the FAQ.

Here are the costs as I see them;

Reamer rental & freight, about $50
Cutting oil $4
Die set - $50
Big Grin on the first shot - PRICELESS

New 45 120 brass costs as much or more as the cheaper 45 70 factory ammo.

I only have 5 shots out of the 45 120, but the recoil is more of a push than the slap I get from my hot 45 70 loads.  The fellow metering the powder determines how much abuse he wants at the range. ;)  I think GBO member Atlaw is the resident authority on high powder 45 120 loads. ;D

BikerBeans: Thanks for the info. Very good point on the guy metering the powder. I guess that it is a little more economical to just get a barrel and forearm for 45-70 and to keep the rounds slow. Plus I can make a lace on leather pad (Decelerator pad inside) to reduce the oommff. Thanks again for the info

I have one a .270 ultra comp, I've had it twice in the last 6 months, when I first got it I found this forum and read all posts about them, took me a week to read them and I really enjoyed reading about them here, I lost my job and had to sell it, I missed that rifle, it keep calling my name, I  traded for the gun back with some guns I said I would never get rid of and now she is mine again, if I ever find another job I may consider getting another caliber, after all this I think the .270 ultra comp will be my last rifle I sell if I don't find a job pretty soon, I have a few guns left now and the ultra is my choice over the bolts and autos I have, I had a Rossi .270 once and it was junk, looked good but would'nt group but 5" at 100yds no matter how I reloaded for it,  great forum here and keep up the good work, Don A-Okla.

Add one .444 Marlin, just purchased for me by my wife, to add to a 12 gauge and a .410.

The .410 hasn't been shot yet, purchased for squirrel season with the kids a few years back, something came up and we didn't go.  Gonna have to fix that come October.

Yo,

I just have one, a 22-250 SB-2.  It came with a pretty nice Bushnell 6x18 scope.  I just bought it but haven't been able to shoot it.  It was missing the ejector spring which I ordered from H&R.  Now I can't figure out how to install it because I did not take it out.  The blowup diagram on H&R's website doesn't help!  I can't get the little sucker leaf spring to go in there on top of the extractor like it shows.  I need to post for help.  Will do so.

Kanilure,

Go the FAQs sticky at the beginning of this forum and use control "f" to search for "ejector".  Will show you how to reinstall your ejector.

Not really BB, he has an extractor barrel, ejectors don't have leaf springs.  ;) There is a pic posted by Tackleberry in the FAQs link Second Generation Extractor Description that I forgot about.   ::) :-[

One for me (my second).  This one has barrels in .223 .243 .308 .45-70 and 20 ga.  My last was a 45-70 that I couldn't add barrels to, so I replaced it with this one.

The right to keep and bear 16 inch guns shall not be infringed.

The bigger they are, the more the bullets expand.

UPDATE: 14 June 2010 @ 1245

738 Handi-Holics.

2,359 Complete Guns.

303 Extra Barrels.

14 Extra Frames.

3.4 per Handi-Holic

Updated Handi-holic-ism Level Chart:

 1  Intern Handi-holic
 3  Average Handi-holic
 8  Journeyman Handi-holic
12  Senior Handi-holic
17  Master Handi-holic

26  Terminal NUTS Handi-holic!

52+  These guys are morphing into Handi-Gods!

Looks like this survey is slowing down… I know there must be more than 738 Handi Owners.  I see strange names visiting us all the time.  Don’t be shy … stand tall!!!  And brag about your Handi’s.  You know you want too.

Note:  Please Handi-holics, even ones with only one Handi, we need your numbers (number of Handi-holics is more important than the Handi’s themselves, counting the guns is just fun).  Besides we all started with just one Handi.

Tim can represent the NUMBER of handi-holics whenever he talks with anyone connected to the Company.  It can’t hurt.
