They come with a longer spring. Just take the cap off holding the forearm stock on, remove the retainer, pull out the old spring, drop in the new spring and screw on the extension, and your done. Make sure there is not a three shot plug in the magazine tube where you doing this. Ain't nuttin to it. If you have problems, pm me with a pho.# and I'll walk ya thru it.

:o Dee and Mc, can these extension magazines be had for the 870's??? I would assume so... Difficult to put on?????? My ability with fixing ANYTHING is nill......
I am Mechanically DECLINED and I can do it.  I need the direction for a screw driver.  It is just like how Dee expalined it.  Dump out the old spring and retainer.  Keep the shell follower, add new spring, screw on extension cap.  Add barrel band if you go more then +2.  About a 10 minute project from start to finnish. (yes Dee, I know it is a three min project at best but when I have a mag tube open I tent to spend a few minutes cleaning it and lubing the spring so everything slides easy.)  Also depending on the age of the remington it could either have a spring retainer or a plastic screw retainer.  The spring one you need to be easy when prying it out and not to mar the mag tube.  The plastic reatiner you get a #3 Phillips, push down and turn 90 degrees and it will pop out.
There are different lenghts of extentions from +1 to +5.  While the idea of 9 or 10 in the gun is neat it does make the gun rather long and you will need a 26" barrel.
Check the usual suspects - Cabelas, Midway, Midsouth, Brownells, or try Cheaper than dirt.
it also adds a lot of weight to the front of the gun. While bigger guys don't notice I am only 5' 10 and I notice the front dips a little.
OH the only thing I can tell you with the extended mags and the Autos.  You need either dummy rounds or the heavy metal snap caps for the gu nto function.  the light Plastic snap caps are short and light and do not function in an auto manually cranked.

I for one don't care to compress the mag. spring all the way and leave it . With an extended mag. you can load 4-5 and spring is not fully compressed but you still have a fair amount of shots on hand in the weapon. As far as weigh it might aid in taming recoil and keep the bbl. on target.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Ya know 4570 I was considering taking the tube extension off mine and lightening it up a little, until a friend of mine went out to see what was after his horses. It was a 70 lb pit bull. He shot the dog once, missed him twice, and got him with the last shot about 15 feet away. The dog had quit the horses and was after him. Spooked the hell out of him. I showed him where to order, and now the 870 holds SEVEN. He feels better about life in the country now.

90% of the time its a 380
40 when weather/clothes allow or while fishing
And a 4" barreled 44 mag when camping, & sometimes while fishing

I was spe-ta-latin too 45-70. The older I gets the heavier that 1100 gets. When he called me and told me that story I got to thinkin. It's really more likely around the house that a dog like that, would be the problem than a human critter, and I ain't gonna be carryin that particular shotgun more than out in the yard anyway. I just left it alone, right by the bed. I can do it with one or two shots, but if he drops my TV, or kicks my Rat Terrier, I might want to shoot him several times. ;D
