District 9
« on: August 22, 2009, 01:02:12 AM »
I went to the movies today... price went up $2 since last time. I would usually dedicate a post to being ripped off when i go to the movies once in a blue moon but not today.

District 9 was just such a good movie, anybody else seen it and if so what did you think of it?

I haven't seen it yet but I heard both reviews.

Some said it was a great movie that just happened to be sci-fi. Kind of like Unforgiven just happened to be a western.

Some said it wasn't very good but I expect they were going expecting a true sci-fi movie.

I do want to see this one

Sorry to jack the thread!  But.........

Not trying to start an arguement or anything but more so trying to bring light to a different view on this.  Professional athletes have very high salaries which in some cases may increase on the grounds of their performance as per their contract.  For an example lets take the NFL and analyze what is going on.

There are 32 Teams in the NFL.  Each teams roster has 60 positions for players.  Each team has several members of the coaching staff but there is no set number and any team may have a management team/cabinet holding several positions also.  So lets say that each team employs at least 100 people that have a specific task at hand for each play week.  These are the people that impact a teams performance and overall have the most affect on a teams outward appearance or popularity.  This in turn is what brings in the CA$H.  THe money that a professionsal sports team brings in each year comes from many things. There are ticket sales, food/drink/products sold at the sporting venues, team name products sold in stores or on the net, sponsorships and appearances, TV syndication, etc.  These things all generate untold fortunes for the team ownership and the NFL fanchise.  This is where the money in generated to pay for the talent that makes all of this work.

So with that the average NFL player in 2008 brought hame $770,000.  Now we know that number is very high due to the enormous amounts of money paid to the "star" players of each team.  However the "average" player actually brings home less than that, the average is simply inflated by the top 1-5 percent.  But for pure numbers sake we will use the $770k for all players and coaching staff on the team.

If all 100 players/staff made $770K in one season that would bring a teams overhead to a whopping $77 million dollars which we all know is not very exact but it is probably not far off including all of the other expendatures that must be averaged in.

With a bill so astronomical and players so "overpaid" you would think these teams would be crying for handouts and filing for bankruptcy.  However the exact opposite happens each year.  These teams are raking in the cash and the players have every right to their piece of the pie.  There is no reason the owners and management should be able to reap the profits when the players are the ones that are paying the bills by keeping the public interested and willing to pay.

Just my take on it......I just think the players are getting what they deserve.  As long as there is that much money flowing in they should receive as much of it as possible b/c in the end without the little guy (the players or "working man") the league would not be able to exist.
