Safety warning re Remington 597 and 17HMR
« on: August 22, 2009, 01:20:54 PM »
I was looking for some other information and came across this warning about using .17 HMR in semiauto rifles, and the Remington 597 in particular.  Read and heed, we don't need anyone hurt.

I just set this as a sticky so it can stay at the top.  Folks, read this if you have a 17HMR autoloader!!

What are the particulars on this recall?  I'm very interested in knowing what the problem is with the ammo and/or the rifles.

The gist of the problem is both firearm and ammo related appartently, with out-of-battery explosions fairly common in the 597.   There have been several threads running about all the hoop 'n' holler at RFC for months.   Do a recall search in the Remington 597 Child Board.

I was surprised to see the recall, one of the guys I used to shoot with had a 597 in .17 HMR, he really loved to shoot it too, he never had any problems.  Now it seems he was lucky.  We could use a semi-auto in .17 HMR, now there aren't any that we can buy.

i got one... when i called remington they were giving me the run around..  then they told me they was only going to give me $250 for mine and i paid close to 400 for it..
that 250 was to be used towards another remington only some kinda coupon. i told the guy what i paid for mine and told him 250 wasn't enough.. to make a long story short this gun isn't going anywhere

If remington isn't giving you what you paid for the rifle when it was brand new. This sounds to me the owners of the 17hmr remington semi auto's should get together and do a class action law suit against remingtton for there mistakes.  They should be hold accountable for there bad products that they sold to the buyers.
