Winchester Ultimate Shadow Rifle

A friend of mine has a heart condition and said his Winchester Ultimate Shadow rifle in 7mm WSM had too much recoil. He said the gun has been shot about five times and wanted $300.00 for it. I bought it, but it is the first Winchester bolt action I have owned. Is this a good shooting rifle? And did I get a good deal?

I think you did incredibly well. The Ultimate Shadow is one of the last from Winchester's New Haven days. I'm guessing that your's was made around 2005. It should have the Control Round Feed (CRF) Bolt/Receiver and that alone to many Winchester folks is probably worth more than you paid for the entire rifle. I think you got a heck of a good deal. You'll sure never lose any money on it if you ever decide to sell. Take it out and fire it. It should be a real good shooter. Congrats.

I am a devoted Winchester man.
I would try one with a bent barrel just because it was stamped Winchester.
That being said, I bought one new in 223 WSSM and it was a piece of junk!
The stock didn't fit very well and the barrel would heat up so fast that you could only stay on target with 2 shots.
The 3rd would start to creep about 1" right and by the 4th it was 3" right and 1.5" high and you could not hold your hand on the barrel.
It took over 2 hours just to sight it in because of the quick heat up problem.
I sold it pretty quick.
Your 7 won't be shot as much as the 223 so after the sight in you should be ok.
As far as price, you done good for sure.
I will give what you paid for it just for the action but you can have the barrel & stock!
I still love my WINCHESTERS!!!

I have 2 of the cheaper Super Shadow model 70's. 270 and 300 WSM's, both shoot under an inch.......very good $400 rifles.....

I bought a Mod 70 on gunbroker in 300WSM.  The previous owner had installed a lightweight firing pin and the safety was very hard to move.  I tried to lighten the trigger but the gun was unsafe at around 3 pounds.  I bought a Jewel trigger and after the gunsmith installed it, I had more in the trigger than in the rifle, but I like it now.
