handi in the hospital
« on: August 26, 2009, 12:21:23 PM »
hi all. my last post here was to try and discover why my .500 s&w handi was all over the target at 100 yds. all of you that replied were most helpfull to me. through digging into the internet i discovered that the reamer that was used in my barrel had left concentic circles in the bore much like cutting threads down the tube. so i boxed it up sent it ilion last week. they are going to give me a new barrel as soon as they can make one. from what they say 30 days or so. that will be pushing deer season here in eastern nc. i have my browning 375 h&h that i shot one with last year to fall back on but i want to use my handi. i am thinking of getting them to add a .243 bbl to it and wondered what you guys thought about the choice of it in a 22 in bull bbl or a 24 in bull bbl. im thinking of barrel whip. what do you all think?

The 243 shoots very well in hands. I prefer the 24 in a SS as you get all the good and little of the bad.  I think you will be fine with either barrel. the 243 is a nice handi caliber.

Keep us posted on your 500, mine isn't great either...

If they can't get you a 500 barrel in time, ask for a 35 Whelen barrel!  ;) Either of the bull barrel 243s will work well for ya, the Superlight is the one that can try your patience.
